Legacy Section

Legacy Section: 

  • Following the commencement of the Criminal Justice (International Co-Operation) Act, 2019 in September 2019, the Legacy Section co-ordinates the response of An Garda Síochána to enquiries linked to the legacy matters received from investigating Authorities in Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
  • The Legacy Section provides ongoing liaison between this Section and the Chief States Solicitor’s Office, who co-ordinate with the Coroner’s Service for Northern Ireland on behalf of the Commissioner of An Garda Síochána.
  • This Section co-ordinates requests within relevant Internal Sections of An Garda Síochána and provide assistance, insofar as the legislation permits to the Coroners Service for Northern Ireland.
