Also, as part of our Crime Prevention segment, Assistant Commissioner Barry O’Brien was in studio to discuss the “Use your Brain Not Your Fist’s” Crime Prevention initiative aimed at preventing assault incidents. The vast majority of assaults are committed by men aged between 18-39 years old and the vast majority of victims are men, with 70% of assault victims and suspects being men. Assistant Commissioner O’Brien discussed the response so far to this campaign which was initially launched in 2016.

We also talked to Joe Grogan, whose son Shane was just twenty-two years old when he was the victim of an unprovoked assault in 2012 suffering life changing injuries.

Gardaí at Naas Garda Station are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Tuesday 2nd October 2018 just outside the village of Calverstown, Co. Kildare.

Shortly after 9pm the injured party was at home settling in for the evening to watch television. At around 9.20pm he went to the back door to let his dog in when he was confronted by two masked men who pushed him back into the house. The injured party fell to the ground. Both suspects were armed with crowbars and had torches, they turned off all the internal lights in the house. One of the suspects held the injured party down on the ground. They demanded money and removed the victim’s wallet from his trouser pocket. 

The suspects sprayed anti-bacterial substance on the victim and moved him to the bathroom where they used a dog lead to lock the door. They continued to ransack the house while the victim was locked into the bathroom. 

A short time later, when the victim was satisfied that the suspects were gone he called for help and a neighbour came to his aid.  

Both suspects were described as being six foot tall of stocky build, wearing blue jeans and dark jackets. 

Appeal: 

• Anyone in the Calverstown area between 8.30pm and 10.30pm that may have seen anything, however small that may assist the investigation.
• Anyone who saw any cars and/or persons acting suspiciously in the area or in unusual places such as farm gateways.
• Anyone in the area that may have had unusual callers to their homes in the days prior to this incident to come forward.
• The property stolen included a sum of cash and a Black in colour Samsung J3 mobile phone

Gardaí at Kilkenny Garda Station are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Saturday 18th August 2018 at a Parochial House in Coon, Co. Kilkenny.

Earlier that morning, the local parish priest said Mass and greeted the local congregation. He went into Castlecomer that afternoon to run a few errands returning home at around 3pm. He had a visitor who called to see him to discuss parish business just after 3pm.

The priest had settled in for the afternoon and was busy writing a sermon, suddenly a woman entered his house demanding money. She picked up the Priest’s mobile phone from the kitchen table and took a knife from a drawer, continuing to demand money.

The Priest handed her a sum of cash which the woman grabbed from him, she then reached into his pocket and removed another sum of cash before pushing the Priest to the ground. The woman fled from the Parochial House on foot.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward
The suspect was described as being tall, approximately five foot ten inches in height of stocky build with dark shoulder length hair. She was wearing a red top.
A woman was seen close to the Parochial house at around 3pm sitting in a light coloured car with two children in the rear passenger seat. This woman has not been identified and Gardaí are appealing to the public to come forward in an attempt to identify her.

Gardaí at Cabra Garda Station are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Tuesday 21st November 2017 in an apartment along Royal Canal Avenue.

Two friends were catching up in one of the women’s apartments along the Royal Canal, at approximately 4.40pm, a blue BMW 5 Series car drove along the road parallel to the canal, they did a U-turn and parked outside an apartment complex. Three men got out of the car and made their way into the apartment.

A few moments later, there was a knock on the door of the apartment the women were in, one of the women looked through the peep hole and saw one man, she opened the door and three men burst in pushing the woman into the living area. The two women were assaulted by the three men, one of them was armed with a hammer. One of the men spoke and demanded money. One of the women gave him some money from her handbag before escaping to the window to scream for help.

The men fled from the apartment taking mobile phones and a laptop with them. They ran to the waiting BMW and drove off in the direction of Ashtown.

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone in the Ashtown & Royal Canal Avenue areas on this Tuesday afternoon and may have seen these men or their BMW car.

• The three suspects arrived in a BMW 5 series car and were captured on CCTV. Gardaí are appealing for people to consider the CCTV footage and along with the car may be in a position to identify these men.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this crime to come forward.

Gardaí at Enniscorthy Garda Station are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Monday 3rd July 2017.

The victim was in his house on Duffry Gate watching television. Shortly after 12.30am his dog started barking at the back door. The man went to have a look and opened the back door, as he did a man jumped from a wall in the back garden onto the victim, causing him to fall back onto the ground, at the same time a second man jumped over the wall. The victim got up and attempted to close the door but the two men pushed their way inside, the victim ran through the house towards the front door in an attempt to escape. He was grabbed by the two men and was seriously assaulted. One of the men was armed with a large kitchen knife.

The following morning, the victim’s partner rang the man several times but he did not answer, being concerned, the woman along with her daughter made their way to Duffry Gate. They saw the man in a dazed and confused state through a window at the front of the house. He had serious injuries to his face and head. The house had been ransacked and a sum of money was reported stolen. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance for medical attention.

Appeal: • Gardaí would like to thank the public so far for their help and assistance with this investigation, however, they are appealing to anyone with information who has not yet come forward to do so now.

• The two men are described as being over six foot in height and wearing dark clothing. A sum of cash in euro and sterling was reported stolen following the incident. Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

• The victim’s mobile phone was recovered in a laneway at the rear of the man’s house. This laneway is situated at the rear of St. Patrick’s Street & St. Patrick’s Place, Gardaí believe the men ran through this laneway, from here the men could gain access to Ross road, An Sean Garraí estate and Bellefield GAA Grounds.

Gardaí at Rathfarnham Garda Station are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Sunday 20th May at approximately 3.35pm in Prospect View, Prospect Manor, Rathfarnham.

On that Sunday afternoon a boy was playing hurling with friends on the green near his house. While he was outside playing, a grey VW Golf registration number 07G1189 (cloned) with 3 men inside drove a short distance down Prospect View, turned around and then pulled-up on the left hand side of the road.

Two of the men got out of the car and made their way towards the boy’s house. One of the men was carrying a nail bar and the other was carrying a handgun. Failing to break open the front door with the nail bar, the two men went around to the back of the house and entered through the rear patio door. Once inside the house they made their way upstairs and began to search the family bedrooms. One of the men found €200 in one of the bedrooms and the nail bar was left on one of the beds.

While the two men were upstairs the boy had come back to the house in order to get a drink of water. Hearing noise coming from upstairs he called out “Who’s there?” The two men appeared at the top of the stairs wearing balaclavas. The boy tried to run away but the raiders caught him before he could get out of the house. The man with the gun pointed it at the boy in order that he stay quiet while the two raiders left through the patio door. They got back into the VW Golf and drove away down Prospect View and right onto Prospect Drive. At the end of Prospect Drive they turned onto Stocking Lane but it is unknown if they went left or right.

Earlier that day, a witness saw the grey Golf parked beside the house, they observed a man in the driver’s side seat reclined all the way.

Description of Suspects:

Suspect with nail bar: 6ft. Late teens, early 20’s. Medium build. Black top and tracksuit bottoms with green stripes.

Suspect with Handgun: 6ft 2. Strong build. Black balaclava. Black jacket and dark tracksuit bottoms with green stripes.

Driver: Late teens, early 20’s, mousey short brown hair with the fringe brushed forward, wearing a grey tracksuit.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Rathfarnham area on the day in question to come forward with any information they might have on the incident.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen the VW Golf on this date either before or after the burglary.

Gardaí at Mountjoy are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Monday 30th April 2018 at approximately 2pm on Iona Road, Dublin 7.

Earlier in the day the owner of the house answered a knock on the door to a man purporting to be in the area offering window cleaning and general maintenance service. The woman declined and a short time later indicated to a student renting a room in her house that she was going for a walk. The student was making a cup of tea in the kitchen when she answered another knock on the door. The man was fair haired wearing a beige jumper. He enquired if “John” was there. The student told him there was no John in the house and he left abruptly.

The young woman returned to her bedroom to study, she heard a noise downstairs but thought nothing of it, she heard another noise and went to the landing to check. There were 3 men on the landing. Two of them were armed with Hurley’s. One of the men swung a hurl at the student narrowly missing her. The three men fled from the house running through the back garden over a wall. They ran in the direction of Iona park.

Gardaí at Irishtown are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Thursday 4th January 2018 at a GAA clubhouse in the area.

At around 11.20pm the last few customers left and the barman began to lock up. The barman secured the front door and made his way on foot out of the car park of the club. As he approached the gate, he was approached from behind and grabbed by a man armed with a handgun. The barman attempted to flee but fell to the ground, the man then escorted the victim back towards the clubhouse. A second man armed with a knife followed shortly behind them. They demanded the keys to the clubhouse and opened the front door.

Once inside the men placed cable ties on the victim’s hands securing them behind his back. They made their way to an office and demanded the keys to the safe, the men could not open the safe and demanded the victim to do it, they cut the ties off him so he could open the safe. Once the safe was opened one of the men secured the victims hands again with ties. The men removed a quantity of cash from the safe and placed it in a wine/maroon coloured backpack. They locked the victim into the office before making their getaway on foot across the football pitches towards Irishtown Stadium where they ran towards Ringsend.

The victim managed to open the office door a short time later and immediately notified Gardaí.

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone in the Irishtown & Ringsend areas that may have information in relation to this incident to come forward.
• The men were described as both being five foot seven inches in height of average build, one of the men wore all black clothing while the other man wore grey tracksuit with a white stripe on both sleeves.
• The two men were captured on CCTV running across the carpark of Irishtown Stadium towards Ringsend park, Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw these men in this area to come forward.

Gardaí at Tallaght Garda Station are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting of twenty-seven-year-old Robert Delaney who was shot and seriously injured on the 22nd October 2008 at his house in Russell Rise estate.

On the morning of the 22nd October, Robert, a father of two, heard a knock at his front door. He looked out the kitchen window and a man fired a shot towards Robert hitting him in the head. Robert was seriously injured and remains in a serious condition in the Peamount Hospital.

Roberts Parents, Terry and Noeleen, his sister Sinead and his daughter Meghan appeal to the public for their assistance with the investigation and encourage those with information to come forward now.

Gardaí in Tallaght are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen either:

• Suspicious activity in the Russell Rise estate on the evening of 21/10/08 and the morning of the 22/10/08.
• An unregistered white Honda Integra car (with no number plates) that was stolen on the evening of the 21st October from a garage on the Naas Road and subsequently located at Montpelier estate in Tallaght.
• Any sightings related to the above car, or any information relating to the shooting.
• Given the passage of time and the possibility that associations / relationships may have changed Gardaí are appealing to those with information and to come forward at the time to do so now.

Gardaí at Santry Garda Station are investigating a attempted robbery of a cash in transit security van outside a Bank in Cloghran, Co. Dublin on Wednesday 24th October 2018.

The security driver was making his rounds in North County Dublin on that Wednesday morning. At around 10am a silver Citroen Berlingo people carrier van registration number 04D28266 parked outside the van. There was up to three men in the car. At approximately 11.45am the cash in transit van pulled up outside the bank and reversed close to the front door.

As the security Guard was making a delivery to the bank, one man got out of the rear passenger door and only one ran towards the driver. One of the men was armed with a crowbar and warned the driver not to get back into the van. The driver quickly moved back into the van and secured the door.

The suspect ran back towards the Citroen Berlingo empty handed. The car drove through the grounds of a Golf driving range towards a gate on Old Stockhole Lane. The suspects set the Citroen car alight before fleeing. A small silver car was observed in the area around the same time.

Appeal:

• The silver Citroen Berlingo car was purchased on Tuesday 16th October 2018. Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information on the whereabouts of this car between this date and the day of the incident
• After the attempted robbery the Citroen Berlingo van drove through the Halfpenny Golf Range which is located beside the Bank. The suspects abandoned the car near a gate that leads onto Stockhole lane. Gardaí are appealing to anyone in the area at this time and who may have seen the suspects
• A small silver car was observed in Stockhole Lane at around 11.45am, Gardaí are appealing to the driver of this car or its occupants
• Anyone using the Golf Driving range that morning and who may have seen the Citroen Berlingo to come forward.

Gardaí at Finglas Garda Station are investigating a cash in transit robbery that occurred at a bank on Main Street, Finglas on 30th August 2018. 

A cash in transit security driver was making his rounds in North County Dublin. He arrived at the bank in Finglas at around 2.35pm. He drove to the front of the premises and parked in a space directly outside the front door of the bank. After making his first delivery he returned to the van. On his way back into the bank a silver Ford Focus saloon car, registration number 05D48943 pulled up behind the van. A man got out of the passenger seat and ran towards the security guard. The suspect was brandishing an iron bar and demanded the cash box. The suspect grabbed the cashbox and fled to the waiting car jumping into the rear seat. 

The car drove down the Finglas Road and turned left into the Glenhill estate, parking outside a small public park on Glenhill Court. The two suspects removed a ladder from the boot of the car and set fire to the vehicle. They threw the ladder into the park and then climbed over the railings. They ran to a wall at the far end of the park and used the ladder to get over the wall and into Fairways Estate where they were last seen running down the estate with the ladder and the cashbox. 

The Ford Focus was sold legitimately on the 18th August this year. The buyer provided false details to the seller.

Gardaí at Leixlip Garda Station are investigating a cash in transit robbery that occurred outside a bank on Main Street, Leixlip on Monday 5th February 2018.

On the date in question, a security van driver was making his rounds in the Kildare area in a blue cash in transit van. The van had parked in a cul de sac called Ralph Square, at the side of the bank.

At almost the same time a white VW Caddy, registration number 04MN6401, drove into the cul de sac, and waited while the van driver made deliveries to and from the bank.

At around 11.40am, the driver of the van made his first delivery to the bank. He then returned to the van and as he was about to return to the bank with another box, the white VW Caddy drove from the cul-de-sac and onto the Main St, blocking the road. A suspect emerged from the rear of the van and pointed a gun at the driver and ordered him to drop the box. The driver dropped the box, which the suspect picked up before jumping into the rear of the Caddy, which drove off in the Lucan direction, with its rear doors open.

The Caddy was next seen passing the Salmon Leap pub. It then turned right onto Cooldrinagh Lane, where it was set alight by the driver. Both suspects than headed over a footbridge which crosses the M4, and leads to the continuation of Cooldrinagh Lane, Lucan. At this point the suspects join a third man who is waiting in a silver Ford Focus hatchback van. The suspects then drive away together in the Ford Focus continuing along Cooldrinagh Lane in the direction of the entrance to Weston Aerodrome.

The VW Caddy was totally destroyed by fire and later recovered by Gardaí. The Silver Ford Focus and the cash box have not been recovered to date.

Gardaí at Raheny Garda Station are investigating a cash in transit robbery that occurred shortly before 12pm on Wednesday 13th December 2017 in Raheny village.

As the driver was making a cash delivery to a bank in the village, a black Renault Megane car, registration number 04SO1897 parked opposite the bank at St. Assam’s Road west. There were 3 men in the car, two of the men got out of the car and approached the driver, one of which was armed with a hammer, they demanded he drop the cash box, which he did.

The two men returned to the Megane car which then turned right onto the Howth road towards Raheny village. It then continued through the village along the Howth road, where at Killester village it turned right onto Collins avenue, right again onto Killester avenue, and then reaching La Vista avenue. Gardaí immediately responded and pursued the car.

The three men then ran on foot through a laneway leading onto Killester Park, where they divided up and get into two cars, a Silver Citroen Picasso registration number 03L2468, and a Red/Maroon Vauxhall Vectra. The cashbox and Megane car were recovered by Gardaí at La Vista avenue. The Picasso car was later recovered in Ballymun on the 25th December 2017. The Vauxhall Vectra has not been recovered to date.

Appeal: • Gardaí are appealing to anyone in the vicinity of Raheny village on the day of the robbery, who may have seen anything suspicious to contact come forward.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen the men or any of the cars involved either on the day or prior to the robbery.

• Gardaí are looking for information in relation to the whereabouts of the cars involved prior to the robbery.

• The black Renault Megane car registration number 04SO1897, was purchased in City West on the 3rd November 2017 and was recovered at La Vista avenue on the day of the robbery. This vehicle was missing a hub cap from the passenger side front wheel.

• The Citroen Picasso car registration number 03L2468, was purchased on the 6th February 2017 in Lusk, Co. Dublin and recovered in Ballymun on the 25th December 2017. This vehicle was missing a hub cap from the driver’s side front wheel.

• The red / maroon Vauxhall Vectra has not been recovered to date, and being described as a Vauxhall would indicate that it is originally from Northern Ireland or the United Kingdom.

Description of Suspects: • The first man held the cashbox, he is described as tall of medium build wearing a black knee length anorak, black workman’s trousers with reflective strips, black balaclava and gloves.

• The second man is described as being of slim build wearing light grey tracksuit bottoms with stripes on the leg, (Adidas), olive green windbreaker jacket, black balaclava/scarf and hat, black runners with white soles and black gloves. He was armed with a hammer.

• The driver of the Renault Megane is described as being of slim build, wearing black jogging bottoms and jacket, with his head and face covered.

Gardaí at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station are investigating a cash in transit robbery that occurred at Killiney Shopping Centre on Wednesday 19th September 2018. 

A security van driver was doing his rounds in the South Dublin area on that Wednesday morning. He arrived at Killiney Shopping Centre at approximately 10.30am and drove towards the back of the premises where he reversed into a space used for security vans when making deliveries to the shopping centre. 

The driver was making his way to the post office in the shopping centre when a man in a grey jumper with the hood up, with his face covered and carrying a hand gun, ran towards him and demanded that he drop the cash box. 

The suspect grabbed the cash box and returned to a silver four door Nissan March registration number 02D83402 that was waiting for him. He got in the back seat and the car drove off. Gardaí believe there was three people in total in that car. They drove to the roundabout beside the shopping centre and took the second exit which leads onto Ballinclea Road. They abandoned the Nissan at Ballinclea Wood and got into a yellow Ford Transit van, which they had parked there before the robbery. 

They drove the transit van down Rochestown Avenue (past the shopping centre) and turned left onto the Johnstown Road. They were next spotted in the Central Park area of Leopardstown heading towards the M50 where it is thought that they travelled northbound.

CCTV from before the robbery shows the Nissan March and yellow Ford Transit van exiting the M50 at Cherrywood at around 10.10am. The two vehicles travelled to Ballinclea Wood where the van remained until after the robbery.

This month’s Crime Prevention segment was presented by Sergeant Graham Kavanagh who discussed the Garda “Summertime Safety “campaign that commenced on Thursday, May 31st 2018.

The primary aim of the campaign will be to engage with and raise awareness amongst the community on ways to prevent home burglaries and crimes against the person during the summer months.

A series of infographics and videos designed to educate the public on ways to avoid being victims of burglaries, thefts, robberies or assaults will be released on social media and traditional media, on a staggered basis throughout the summer months.

On this month’s Crime Prevention segment, Sergeant Graham Kavanagh was in studio to offer advice in relation to the “Ask for Angela” initiative. The aim of this initiative is to focus on supporting people who feel unsafe, intimated or threatened in a social setting, while on a night out and whose evening is not going well. Any person who finds themselves in this situation is encouraged to approach the staff on duty at the premises. They then use the following code words “Is Angela in?”. The staff will then know that the person is in need of assistance and will help to remove them from the situation discretely and call a taxi if necessary. Sergeant Kavanagh also offered advice to the public in relation to an online dating scam.

On this month’s Crime Prevention Segment, Sergeant Graham Kavanagh was in studio to discuss the National Crime Prevention & Reduction Campaign “Streetwise” that commenced last year.

This campaign is part of An Garda Síochána’s Anti-Crime Strategy, Operation Thor and will be supported by three pillars namely, Education / Awareness, Crime Prevention and Enforcement.

The objective of this campaign is to communicate a strong “personal safety” message to the public in advance of and during the St. Patrick’s Day Festival.

Sergeant Kavanagh advised the public to plan their journey to and from their destination whilst socialising in towns and cities.

On this month’s Crime Prevention Segment, Sergeant Graham Kavanagh was in studio to offer advice in relation to motorcycle security and bogus callers.

Sergeant Kavanagh offered motorcycle security advice during a filmed feature to illustrate the many ways in which criminals will attempt to steal motorcycles.

At this time of year, Gardaí urge all residents to be vigilant in relation to bogus callers & distraction burglaries. Sergeant Kavanagh offered advice on how best to keep your home & property safe.

The appeal included a filmed awareness feature to illustrate the many way criminals will steal vehicles and property from vehicles. Sergeant Kavanagh offered advice to the public on how best to keep their property safe and secure.

On this month’s Crime Prevention segment, Sergeant Kelvin Courtney was in studio to discuss An Garda Síochána’s Crime Prevention Initiative Operation Thor as the Winter Phase is launched.

Operation Thor is An Garda Síochána’s national anti-crime strategy, which was launched in November 2015. The primary focus of Operation Thor during the winter months is on preventing and detecting burglaries.

Proactive policing under Operation Thor has led to the disruption of Inter-Regional Travelling Criminals (IRTCs) operating nationwide, using the extended motorway network, and has resulted in the arrest of a number of prolific offenders targeted under this initiative.

Since the instigation of Operation Thor there has been a marked impact on burglary and related offences across the country. Operation Thor has primarily focused efforts on residential related burglary offences, due to the profound impact and social harm that can be caused by this type of criminality. Since the beginning of Operation Thor, residential related burglaries have reduced by about 34%, while non-residential related burglaries have reduced by 23%, when compared to an equivalent period, before the operation was launched. 

Winter Burglary Facts

• Around 37% of burglaries occurred between 5:00pm and 9:59pm last winter.
• Jewellery and cash comprised the highest value property stolen (€5.6 million).
• The main entry point used by burglars was the rear door or window (43%).
• 17% of burglaries involved entry through an unsecured door or window.
• Over €8 million worth of property was stolen in residential burglaries last winter.
   

Residential Burglaries have fallen by 8% in the last twelve months, according to figures from the Garda Síochána Analysis Service. Since the launch of Operation Thor in 2015, residential burglary has decreased.

Currently, the count for the last 12 months is at its lowest in the last five years with around 12,000 residential burglaries reported. This compares to around 20,700 residential burglaries in the period October 2014 to September 2015 prior to the launch of Operation Thor. Figures released by the Central Statistics Office confirm that burglary and related offences have decreased since Operation Thor began.

Complacency should be avoided however, as, traditionally, residential burglaries begin to rise as winter approaches. Last year, 13% more residential burglaries occurred in the winter months than in the summer.

1. Secure all doors and windows.
2. Light up your home, use timer switches when out.
3. Use your alarm, even when at home.
4. Store keys safely and away from windows and letterboxes.
5. Record details of valuables and don’t keep large amounts of cash at home.

This month’s Crime Prevention segment was presented by Sergeant Kelvin Courtney who was in studio to talk about the Garda Summertime Safety Campaign. The aim of this campaign is to improve home and personal security through sharing simple but effective crime prevention advice throughout the summer.

An Garda Síochána is supporting the European wide launch of the European Crime Prevention Network’s (EUCPN) prevention campaign on pickpocketing during large events such as soccer matches and concerts.

On this month’s Crime Prevention segment Sergeant Graham Kavanagh was in studio to discuss elder abuse and the warning signs to look out for if you are the victim of this crime or if you think you may know someone who is the victim of elder abuse. 

Elder abuse is relevant to you if you are experiencing abusive treatment from another person or if you are concerned about a relative or friend who is being abused. There are several different forms of elder abuse and there are signs and indicators to be aware of, in your own case, or in the case of a friend, neighbour or relative. 

The forms of elder abuse include:

•• psychological abuse

•• neglect

•• financial or material abuse

•• physical abuse

•• sexual abuse and

•• discrimination.

An Garda Síochána has specialist units in place - The Garda National Protective Services Bureau and GNDIU – that encourages the reporting of any form of suspected abuse by anyone. There are 240 Garda Diversity Officers appointed throughout Ireland who will provide a sensitised service to victims/witnesses if required.

Gardaí at Balbriggan Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding a criminal damage incident that occurred on Thursday 17th May 2018 at approximately 11.30pm.

A green Renault Laguna car was recovered crashed at Ardla Graveyard in Skerries, four graves were damaged including two headstones. Three men and two women were seen fleeing from the crashed car. Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information about this incident to come forward.

Gardaí at Bray Garda Station are investigating an incident involving the discharging of a firearm at Upper Dargle Road, Bray, Co. Wicklow.

A number of shots were fired through the front door of a house on Upper Dargle Road at approximately 11.45pm on Monday 30th April 2018. A family were present inside the house at the time of this incident.

The suspect is described as five foot ten inches in height of slim build with light colored hair. He was wearing dark clothes, a jacket with a hood and jeans. He had a cloth or scarf covering his face.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information about this incident to contact them.

Gardaí at Ballymun are investigating the double murder of Antoinette Corbally and Clinton Shannon that occurred on Wednesday 16th August 2017 at approximately 4pm.

A Silver Opel Zafira registration number 08LS3101 drove into Balbutcher Drive, Poppintree, Ballymun, Dublin 11, a lone suspect alighted from this vehicle and entered the front garden of a house on Balbutcher Drive, therein, this person discharged a number of rounds from a firearm which resulted in the fatal shooting of Antoinette Corbally and Clinton Shannon.

The driver of the Opel Zafira 08-LS-3101, remained in the vehicle and drove towards the end of the cul de sac on Balbutcher Drive, the driver stopped the Opel Zafira, here they attempted to set the vehicle on alight.

Having discharged shots, the suspect then ran from the garden towards the pedestrian walkway on Balbutcher Drive, which allows access onto Cranogue Terrace. The gunman joined up with the driver of the Opel Zafira, both then ran towards and entered a Black Volkswagen Golf 06-LH-3466 which was situated on Cranogue Terrace, Gardaí believe that a third person then drove the two persons away from the Poppintree area.

Gardaí believe that the Black Volkswagen Golf 06-LH-3466 then drove towards the Santry Close housing estate, situated off the Swords Road, opposite Morton Stadium. Shortly after 1605hrs, the Black Volkswagen Golf was set alight in the Santry Close housing estate, Gardaí believe that all three occupants then transferred into a Grey Toyota Corolla Verso Registration number 05KE4228.

Gardaí believe that the occupants then left the Swords Road area, that the Toyota Corolla Verso 05-KE-4228 then travelled onto the M1 motorway travelling North towards Swords, Co. Dublin.

Gardaí believe that the Toyota Corolla Verso 05-KE-4228 travelled through Swords at about 16.10hrs, heading Westbound for the Ashbourne area.

Gardaí believe that the occupants of the Toyota Corolla Verso utilised the facilities of a house or yard somewhere in the Ashbourne / Rathoath area between the hours of 1630hrs – 1900hrs. Gardaí are seeking to establish the whereabouts of this vehicle or its occupants during this time period.

Gardaí believe that two occupants of the Toyota Corolla Verso then continued Northbound shortly after or about 1905hrs through the town of Navan, Co. Meath.

Gardaí believe that due to roadworks in the town during the month of August 2017, motorists were forced to continue travelling Northbound on the M3 motorway, the Grey Toyota Corolla Verso 05-KE-4228 travelled Northbound through the M3 Eurolink Toll Bridge at 1923hrs.

CCTV Footage from the M3 Toll Bridge has been obtained, the driver of the Toyota Verso wore a dark tee shirt, the passenger can be observed wearing a light blue vest tees shirt and a pair of grey shorts.

Gardaí believe that the Toyota Corolla Verso at about 1945hrs travelled through Virginia, Co. Cavan again travelling Northbound onward towards Cavan Town. At about 2005hrs the Verso continued Northbound along the M3 motorway through Cavan Town.

Gardaí believe that the Toyota Verso then travelled onto the N54 through Cloverhill, Co. Cavan at about 2011hrs, continuing on the N54 / A3 roadways towards the Border with Northern Ireland and onward to Clones.

At about 2105hrs, Gardaí believe that the Toyota Verso travelled through Monaghan Town then entered Northern Ireland on the N12 / A3 - Monaghan Road roadway at approximately 2120hrs. We believe that the vehicle travelled toward South Armagh and then took the A28 – Markethill Road toward Newry at about 2145hrs.

Gardaí believe that the vehicle travelled towards Newry on the A28 - Gosford Road at about 2155hrs, we do not know where this vehicle 05-KE-4228, Grey Toyota Corolla Verso travelled to from this location.

Appeal:

The investigation team at Ballymun Garda Station are appealing to members of the public both in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland that may have observed this vehicle and its occupants or be in possession of CCTV footage or Dash Cam footage from the evening / night of the 16th August 2017 to come forward to assist with our enquires, the route travelled by the Toyota Verso would appear to be an evasive ploy, the obvious route to Newry (if indeed this was to the vehicles intendent final destination) would have been the M1 motorway via Dundalk. For reasons unknown the vehicle travelled a lengthy journey to reach Newry.

Did the occupants stop at any time to avail of service station facilities? Did they stop at a local shop to purchase refreshments? We are appealing to the general public for information that you may be in possession of and that you believe may be of assistance to our enquiries.

Antoinette Corbally and Clinton Shannon are innocent victims of a shooting that was conducted in broad daylight in a quiet community based housing estate, young children were present in the area, local residents both young and old were going about their day to day business, we believe that there are people watching tonight that have information in relation to the tragic events that unfolded on Balbutcher Drive, Ballymun on the afternoon of the 16th August 2017, we believe that members of the public hold the information we require to advance this investigation, all information will be dealt with as sensitively as possible.

Gardaí at Mayfield Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of Cathal O’Brien & Kevin Ball who have not been seen since the 18th April 1994.

Cathal was living in a flat at Wellington Terrace, Mayfield in Cork City from September of that year, he befriended Kevin Ball shortly after. Kevin was a native of Surrey in the United Kingdom but had been living in the Mayfield area at the time of his disappearance.

Wellington Terrace is a three storey dwelling which was divided into six flats at the time of the men’s disappearance.

Gardaí have conducted an extensive investigation over the years with numerous searches carried out. Gardaí believe Cathal & Kevin were murdered sometime after the 18th April.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who knew Cathal & Kevin in 1994 and who may have information in relation to their disappearance to come forward now.

Cathal’s father Seamus will be in studio to appeal to the public for their assistance and help bring his Son’s body home.

Gardaí at Ennis are investigating a robbery from the person incident that occurred on Friday 14th September 2018 at 9.15pm on the Old Mill Road, Ennis, Co. Clare. 

The injured party was sitting in the front passenger seat of a car when the door opened by a man armed with a knife. The man told the injured party to get out of the vehicle and took a pink Guess handbag. 

An EVOFIT was compiled of the suspect who is described as being in his thirties, five foot eleven in height of medium build with a prominent nose wearing a brown/green fleece with a wool hat.

Gardaí at Blackrock Garda Station are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Monday 11th June 2018 at approximately 11.30am.

The injured party was at home at Torquay Wood, Foxrock when they were confronted by 3 men. One of the men was armed with a crowbar. The men fled the scene. The front window of the house was smashed.

Gardaí at Drogheda are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on Saturday 14th April 2018 between 5pm and 6pm in Pearse Park, Drogheda, Co. Louth.

An elderly man was at home alone when he answered a knock on his door to a man posing as an insurance salesman. When the door open the man pushed his way in and produced a knife. The man ransacked the house for over an hour. He locked the victim into a toilet and left the house. A sum of money was missing from the house.

A detailed EVOFIT was compiled of the suspect who is described as being tall with fair hair, tightly cut. He was wearing a white jacket, jeans and runners.

Gardaí at Pearse Street Garda Station are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred at a house on Huband Road, Bluebell, Dublin 12 on Friday 13th October 2017.

Three men forced their way into the house through the front door. The house was occupied at the time by a woman and a young child. The woman was tied up during the burglary. The house was ransacked and a large amount of jewellery and a sum of cash was stolen.

A detailed EVOFIT was compiled, one of the suspects is described as being six-foot-tall, of athletic build. He was clean shaven with fair skin with a strong jaw line. He spoke with a Dublin accent.

At approximately 10.10pm on the 12/9/2019 an attempted abduction took place as a woman was waiting at a bus stop in Barberstown, Straffan Co. Kildare. While standing at the bus stop, a vehicle pulled up beside her. A Male driver offered her a lift which she declined. The woman reported that he got out of car, came around to her, grabbed her by the arm briefly. 

She warned him off by saying she would report the incident to the guards. He ran back to his car and drove off.

Gardaí at Galway Garda Station are investigating a theft by deception incident that occurred in Brookdale on Thursday 18th January 2018.

The victim was approached by two men who offered to clean the gutters of her house, they alleged that upon inspection of the gutters they saw damage to the roof which would cost €3000 to repair. The victim paid the men who stated they would return the following day to carry out the repairs. The men did not return to repair the roof nor did they return the money.

Two detailed EVOFITS were compiled, the first man is described as being in his mid-thirties, short in height of medium build with dark hair. He wore a long dark working jacket with a high visibility stripe on the sleeves. The second man is described as being in his mid-thirties, six foot in height with slightly wavy brown hair of medium length. He was softly spoken. He was wearing standard dark overalls. They were in possession of a double sided aluminium ladder.

Both males travelled in a small dark van which was parked in the Brookdale Estate, Headford Road, Galway.

Gardaí at Laytown Garda Station are investigating a burglary that occurred on Tuesday the 7th August 2018 at a house in the Grange Rath area of Drogheda. Shortly after 10pm a woman was at home when she saw two men in her house. They ransacked the house and removed a sum of money.

Gardaí at Swords Garda Station are investigating a burglary that occurred in North County Dublin on Wednesday 31st October 2018 at approximately 12.45am. The injured party returned home and disturbed two men attempting to break into her house. 

The suspects made their way to a black Toyota Avensis Saloon car registration number 06C7537. A third man was driving the car.

(Driver): described as 5ft 9-5ft 10 in height, and of slim build. He had dark hair cut tight around the sides with and longer on the top, with spots on his face. He was aged between 20-25. He was wearing a blue shell type jacket, possibly a tracksuit top and light coloured jeans. He also had a country type accent.

The second suspect was the passenger and is described as having short fair hair, and fair skin. He was about 5ft 7 in height and of slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured top and was also aged 20-25. He didn’t speak to the victim.

There was a third suspect and he was wearing a light coloured hoodie which he had pulled up and he was sitting in the rear of the vehicle covering his face with his hand, the victim did not see his face at all.

Gardaí at Thurles Garda Station are investigating a number of Theft incidents which occurred in the Tipperary Division on Wednesday 17th October 2018. Investigating Gardaí have established that a Red Volkswagen Golf was involved, bearing a cloned registration number 07LH2611. The thefts occurred in the Nenagh, Borrisoleigh, Upperchurch, Dundrum, Galbally and Aherlow areas.

An EVOFIT was compiled of the driver of the Volkswagen Golf who is described as being in his early twenties, wearing a dark baseball cap with light stubble on his face.

Gardaí at Crumlin Garda Station are investigating a burglary that occurred at Brookfield Green, Kimmage, Dublin 12 between 5pm and 6.20pm on Monday 18th December 2017.

The injured party returned home and disturbed an intruder who is described as being approximately thirty years old, five foot eight inches in height with dark eyes, a thin face with stubble and spoke with a Dublin accent. He was wearing black workman’s trousers with side pockets, a black shiny jacket and a beanie hat.

Gardaí at Swords Garda Station are investigating a burglary that occurred on Saturday 8th September 2018 in Rivervalley, Swords. Co. Dublin. 

The injured party heard his door bell ringing a number of times, he looked out and saw a dark coloured car parked outside his house. He saw a shadow at the front door.  The front door was subsequently forced open by two men who fled when he seen the injured party. There was a third man sitting in the car. 

An EVOFIT was compiled of the suspect, who is described as six-foot-tall, of thin build with ginger / blonde greasy hair which was cut tight at the side with a long fringe. He was wearing light coloured tracksuit bottoms with a green top, a short sleeved polo shirt.

Gardaí at Killaloe Garda Station are investigating a burglary that occurred on Wednesday 29th August 2018 at Clonlara, Co. Clare. 

The injured party arrived home at approximately 5.55pm and observed a silver/gold Toyota Avensis car possibly a 2006 model, parked outside her house, the driver appeared to be on his mobile phone. The injured party was with a friend in her car, the Avensis then drove at speed away from the injured party’s house. When the injured party entered her house she discovered the back door was open and had been damaged and a large quantity of jewellery was missing. 

The driver of the Avensis is described as being in his thirties with a round face, with sandy/red coloured hair cut very short with slight spikes, large eyes and flushed complexion. He was wearing a grey top.

Gardaí at Kilkenny are investigating an incident of exposure that occurred on Saturday 12th May 2018 at Blackquarry Filling Station, Kilkenny.

The victim was walking along the road, she observed a black jeep and as she approached the jeep a man got out and asked her for directions. She was unable to assist with the directions. The man then exposed himself to the woman.

Gardaí at Ballymahon Garda Station are investigating an incident of exposure that occurred on Monday 17th July 2017 between 2pm & 3.30pm at a car park in Newcastlewood, Ballymahon, Co. Longford.

The man is described as being between fifty and sixty years old, five foot eight inches in height, with receding grey hair (tight haircut). He had a pale complexion with thin grey eyebrows. He was wearing a blue lose fitting t-shirt, black trousers, black sandals with no socks and a sleeveless high viz jacket.

Gardaí at Henry Street Garda Station are investigating an incident of exposure that occurred on 29th December 2017 between 12pm and 1pm.

The victim was out jogging along the Canal Bank, near Clare Street when she observed a man who exposed himself and performed an indecent act on himself.

A detailed EVOFIT was compiled of the suspect who is described as five foot eleven inches in height of average build with dark short hair and a pale complexion. He was wearing a blue bomber jacket with dark blue jeans

Gardaí at Swords Garda Station are investigating the hijacking of a taxi on Saturday 8th December 2017. The injured party collected a fare at Hanlons Corner on the North Circular Road, Dublin 7 at approximately 3am on the morning of the 8th. The men asked to be taken to Swords. One of the men was wearing a blue jumper with a hood and he sat in the rear passenger seat. The second man was dressed in dark clothing and sat behind the driver. When they got to Swords they directed the taxi man to continue out a country road. The man in the dark clothing put his hand around the injured party’s neck and the other man threatened him with what the injured party believed was a knife.

They told the taxi man to get out of the car and left him on the side of the road. He sought assistance from passing motorists and contacted the Gardaí. The car was recovered later that morning in Ashbourne, Co. Meath. It had been set alight.

An EVOFIT was compiled of the man who was wearing the blue jumper, he is described as six-foot-tall, well built (muscles). He had blonde medium length hair, small eyes and blonde eyelashes.

Gardaí at Dundrum Garda Station are investigating a robbery incident that occurred on Tuesday 17th October 2017 at Merrion Park, Blackrock, Co. Dublin.

The injured party in this incident was walking along Merrion Park when she passed a man who appeared to be checking his bicycle, as she passed him, he came up behind her and pushed her and pulled her handbag off over her head in an aggressive manner. The man then cycled away towards the children’s playground in the park.

The suspect is described as twenty to twenty-five years old, about five foot seven inches in height with dark hair slightly receding, pale face and of average build. He was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, with a dark top.

Gardaí at Blanchardstown Garda Station are investigating a robbery from the person that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday 17th July 2018. 

The victim was cycling along the Clonsilla road, when a dark green 5 Series BMW car with partial registration number 03D pursued him and collided with the victim knocking him off his bike. 

There were up to four men in the car, two men got out of the rear passenger seats and approached the victim who was lying on the ground. One of the suspects grabbed the victim’s mobile phone and headphones. One of the suspects got back into the car which travelled towards the Blanchardstown direction. The second suspect ran from the scene towards the Clonsilla Link Road. 

A detailed EVOFIT was compiled of one of the suspects who approached the victim, he is described as around five foot eight inches in height with short black hair, dark stubble, sallow skin, wearing a grey tracksuit with two white stripes down each side.

Gardaí at Clondalkin Garda Station are investigating an indecency incident that occurred on Thursday 15th March 2018 at approximately 1.40pm at Corcagh Park.

The victim was walking through the park, when a man approached her from behind and exposed himself.

The suspect is described as being between twenty to thirty years old with brown hair. He was wearing a red baseball cap, light grey shorts with a yellow high visibility jacket.

Gardaí at Swords are investigating a fatal hit & run collision that occurred between the hours of 1am and 2am on Sunday 24th June 2018 on the Rathbeale Road, Swords, Co. Dublin. A male pedestrian was found fatally injured on the road & Gardaí believe that the male was struck by a vehicle which left the scene. 

Gardaí have established an Incident Room at Swords Garda Station (PH:6664700) to investigate the matter.  Several people have so far assisted Gardaí with this investigation. 

Gardaí are now appealing to anybody who was in this area between the hours of 10pm on Saturday 23rd and 2am on the 24th June 2018 to make contact with them at Swords Garda Station. 

Gardaí are particularly interested in any Dash Cam footage that may be available to assist the investigation.

Gardaí at Lucan Garda Station are investigating an incident that occurred at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre car park on Saturday 27th May 2017.

A teenager and his younger brother were sitting in a car in the car park of Liffey Valley Shopping Centre waiting for their mother who was shopping.  A man and woman approached the car and asked the teenager for the time.  The man and woman returned a short time later and on this occasion they got into the rear of the car. The teenager was assaulted and handed over the keys to the car.  They then put the teenager and his brother out of the car and left the area, leaving the two boys standing in the car park.

The car is a grey Toyota Avensis 04D4354 and travelled southbound on the N7 after it was stolen. Later that evening, at about 9.40pm, this car was used in the theft of petrol at a service station in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois.

Two detailed EVOFITS were compiled of the suspected offenders. The woman was described as having a skinny face and nose, she was wearing a dark blue jumper with the hood up and had dark hair. The man is described as about five foot nine inches in height of medium build with a broad face with red stubble on his face. He was wearing a black hooded jumper. Both were between twenty and thirty years old.

The Gardaí at Roxboro Road Garda Station are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of missing person Aengus (Gussie) Shanahan who is missing from his home in Ashbrook, Limerick since February 2000.

Twenty-year-old Gussie worked in Dell, he normally travelled to and from work using various methods of public transport. Gussie didn’t drive and did not own a mobile phone. On Friday the 11th February 2000, Gussie finished work at 3pm. He got paid that day and travelled to Limerick City and withdrew £100 from a Bank of Ireland ATM. His father Bob worked at the bank and Gussie met him there and returned £60 he had borrowed from him the week before. Gussie then went across the road to Supermacs and met a friend. They discussed their plans for the evening. Gussie and two close friends travelled to a public house known at the time as Cooper’s Bar on St. Joseph’s Street. They had a couple of sociable drinks and chatted with other customers in the bar. The two friends were renting a house across the road from the pub. Shortly after 9pm one of the friends went home to prepare some food. The other friend followed shortly afterwards. It was arranged that Gussie would stay with them for the night. Gussie remained in the bar and had another drink.

Gussie was captured on CCTV leaving the pub and crossing the road towards his friend’s house. A witness recalled how she saw Gussie raise his hand as if to knock on the door and then lower it again. He did not knock on the door. He placed a bottle of beer he was holding onto the ground and put his jacket on and walked towards a laneway known locally as School Alley Lane. Gussie was never seen again.

An extensive investigation followed and several areas and rivers were searched. Gussie’s family have travelled the country looking for answers. Unfortunately, Gussie’s mother Nancy passed away without finding out what happened to her son.

In 2001 a bone fragment was discovered on Quay Island in Bunratty, Co. Clare, recently with advances in technology, the remains were confirmed through DNA analysis to be Gussie. A funeral service was held for him on Saturday 10th November.

Gardaí at Edenderry Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of twenty-six-year-old Latvian national Edgars Leimanis who has not been seen since Saturday 31st March 2018.

Edgars was staying with friends in Newberry Close, Edenderry, Co. Offaly, on the morning of the 31st he told one of them he was going for a walk for half an hour, but he never returned.

Edgars is described as six foot two inches in height of slim build with short brown hair. When last seen he was wearing a dark coloured jacket buttoned up the front, dark coloured trousers and dark shoes.

Gardaí at Ronanstown Garda Station are re-appealing for information in relation to missing person Esra Uyrun (DOB) (01/03/1972) who has been missing from her home at Collinstown Grove, Clondalkin since the 23rd February 2011.

Esra left her home at approximately 7.15am in a silver Renault Twingo registration number 08D23067. This vehicle was located in a car park at the bottom of Bray Head. When last seen Esra was wearing black leggings, a dark top and white Nike trainers. Esra was married and had a two-year-old son at the time of her dissappearnce.

CCTV captured the Renault Twingo turning right from Convent Avenue onto Strand Road in Bray at approximately 8.40am on the 23rd February 2011. A Skoda car had to swerve to avoid a collision. The Renault then moved into the left hand side of the road and pulled in to allow the Skoda to overtake it. They both continued down Strand Road in the direction of Bray Head. Later that morning the silver Renault Twingo car was captured on CCTV parked at the car park at the bottom of Bray Head. There has been no activity on her bank accounts or her Facebook page since the 23rd February 2011.

Gardaí in Dundalk Garda Station are renewing their appeal for information into the movements and whereabouts of twenty-nine-year-old Geidre Raguckaite, who is missing since Wednesday 23rd May 2018. 

Gardaí believe she moved out of her rented accommodation at College Heights, Dundalk on the 23rd May. 

Gardaí are anxious to hear from anyone who may know where she moved to or has provided her with permanent or temporary accommodation since the 23/5/18. Enquiries to date suggest she may have been in the Laytown area of Co. Meath on the night of the 29th May 2018. It is also established that Geidre's last known contact with her family was on the evening of the 29th May 2018. 

Geidre is described as approximately 1.67meters in height of thin build, with blonde hair, pale complexion and green Eyes.

Gardaí at Blanchardstown Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of thirty five-year-old Polish national, Konrad Misiak.

Konrad was reported missing on 25th March 2014 who stated they had not seen him for several weeks previously.

Gardaí at Finglas launched an extensive investigation that included, door to door enquires, interviews, canvassing of CCTV and assistance from Interpol. To date Konrad has not been located nor has there been any sightings of him. Konrad is described as 157cm in height of slight build with shaved brown hair and brown eyes, he wore glasses.

His family are extremely concerned for his safety and wellbeing and have not heard from him since February 2014.

Gardaí at Leixlip Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of thirty-eight-year-old Marcin Michalek who has not been seen since 17th April 2016.

Marcin is a polish national but had been living in Ireland for a number of years. At the time of his disappearance Marcin was residing at Ormond House Apartments, Maynooth. Marcin was seen on CCTV at Tesco in Maynooth between 6.35pm and 6.52pm. This is the last confirmed sighting of Marcin. Marcin’s car, a grey Mazda 6, registration number 04WX203 was recovered on 4th May 2016.

Marcin is described as five foot nine inches in height of medium build with blue eyes and dark hair, a tight haircut with a partial beard. When last seen he was wearing blue jeans, a black tracksuit top with red writing on same with beige walking shoes. He was known to carry a small black backpack.

Marcin’s family, friends and the Gardaí are extremely concerned for his safety and wellbeing.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road Garda Station are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of thirty-year-old Matthew Carroll who has not been seen since the 8th June 1998.

Matthew, a father of one, was out socialising with friends in the Roxboro area, they were celebrating a recent win for a local football team, Carew Park who had won the Lawson Cup the previous day.

Matthew was last seen leaving the Steering Wheel public house at Roxboro shopping centre at around 8pm to walk the short distance to his home on nearby Rose court.

Matthew never arrived home and has not been seen since, his daughter Trudy and his brother Seamus appeal for information on Crimecall this month.

Gardaí at Clontarf Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of fifty-one-year-old Paul O’Donnell who is missing from his home in Charlemont Road, Clontarf, Dublin 3 since Friday 9th February 2018.

Paul was last seen by his daughter on the evening of Tuesday 6th.

Paul was known to walk around the Clontarf and Kilbarrack areas, he particularly liked to walk along the coast where there was a possible sighting of him on the Clontarf road near the Baths on Wednesday morning the 7th February.

There has been no activity on Paul’s credit union account and he has not collected his social welfare payments. Paul’s family are extremely concerned for his safety and wellbeing and Gardaí are eager to hear from anyone who may have seen Paul, particularly on Tuesday 6th or Wednesday 7th.

Paul is described as 5'8", very thin build with receding hair going grey. He usually wore dark clothing.

Gardaí at Greystones Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of forty-eight-year-old Peter Scully who was reported missing from his home on Tuesday 4th April 2017.

Peter was last seen in his home at Fairfield Park, Greystones, Co. Wicklow by a close friend who called into see him on the Sunday evening, 2nd April. Peter was watching television, his friend only stayed for a short time. Earlier in the day Peter visited his mother in her home nearby.

Peter lived a simple life and had a small circle of friends, he enjoyed placing bets on horse racing and walking along the cliff walk in Greystones. He was well known and liked around the town of Greystones having lived there most of his life.  Peter’s car was parked outside his home. Gardaí believe Peter was wearing a pink t-shirt with blue jeans at the time of his disappearance.

Peter’s family & friends are extremely concerned for his wellbeing and safety and two of his friend’s appeal for help from the public through Crimecall.

Gardaí at Carlow Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of thirty-year-old Polish national, Rafal Filipowicz, who has not been seen since 16th March 2018.

Rafal attended Portlaoise General Hospital on the 15th March 2018 and left the hospital the following day.

Rafal is described as five foot eleven inches tall, of medium build with short brown hair. He had a beard at the time of his disappearance. When last seen he was wearing a red polo short with grey tracksuit bottoms.

Gardaí have carried out a number of searches for Rafal, but have not located him as yet. They are seriously concerned for his safety and well-being.

Gardaí at Letterkenny Garda station are continuing to investigate the murder of twenty-seven-year-old Andrew Burns who was shot and fatally injured in a church car park in Donnyloop Village, Castlefinn, Co. Donegal on 12th February 2008.

Ten years on from the murder, Gardaí continue to appeal for assistance from the public. One person was convicted of the murder of Andrew, however Gardaí believe there are a number of people involved in the murder and are appealing to those people to come forward now. Gardaí are also appealing to anyone with information about this murder to come forward, specifically the occupants of a red van that was seen in the area of Donnyloop prior to the murder and the occupants of a silver coloured before and after the murder.

The Gardaí at Finglas Garda Station are investigating the murder of thirty-three-year-old Darren Kearns who was fatally wounded in the car park of a public house on Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin 7 on Wednesday 30th December 2015.

Darren and his wife decided to go for an early evening meal and left their home at Ashtown in Dublin at approximately 3.30pm. Darren drove his wife’s car, a two door white Fiat 500. They tried a couple of restaurants in and around the area, but they were closed. Their journey took them along Collins Avenue, Drumcondra where they decided to turn around outside Dublin City University and drove to a restaurant at Finglas which was also closed. They went to a service station at Clearwater Shopping Centre in Finglas where Darren purchased petrol.

After leaving the service station they decided to try a well-known Chinese restaurant next to Cumiskey’s Public House on Blackhorse Avenue arriving at approximately 4.45pm. Darren and his wife had their meal and left the restaurant just after 5.30pm. Darren’s wife was now driving. As they drove towards the exit a silver coloured 5 Series BMW M series, registration number 04D35151, entered the car park from the Baggot Road entrance and blocked their way. At this point a man appeared running beside the BMW carrying a firearm. He approached the couple’s car and fired at the victim.

The BMW exited onto Baggot Road with the suspect getting into the rear driver’s door. The car turned left onto Blackhorse Avenue and drove at speed to Regal Park, where it turned left before being abandoned and set alight in a laneway there.

A man left the same laneway and ran to a waiting car. This car had its lights off and turned right at speed onto Blackhorse Avenue. It continued on Blackhorse Avenue before turning right onto Skreen road. The car then turned from Skreen road onto the Navan road.

Appeal:

The car used in connection with this murder is a 5 series BMW M series, 4 door, Silver, bearing its correct registration 04D35151. The car was purchased from a car buyer’s website on the 28th October 2015.The person who purchased the car supplied false details.

Where was this car between 28th October and 30th December 2015.

Any sighting of the couple in the white fiat 500 from the time they left their home at Ashtown (3.30pm approx.), until they arrived at the pub (4.45pm approx.)

Sightings of the BMW after the shooting, especially at Regal Park where the car was abandoned and a man ran to a waiting car.

Sightings of the car that left Regal Park at speed and drove without headlights at speed and turned right from Blackhorse Avenue onto Skreen Road. Where did this car go after it turned onto the Navan Road.

The Gardaí at Swinford Garda Station are re-appealing for information in relation to the murder of Edward (Eddie) Fitzmaurice, Bellaghy, Charlestown, Co. Mayo.

At 6.45pm on the 5th May 1998 Eddie’s body was found in a bedroom of his home.  It was established that sometime between 8.20pm on Friday, the 1st May 1998 and Saturday morning the 2nd May 1998 Eddie was assaulted in his home following a burglary.  He was tied up, gagged and left to die over a period of five days.

The Garda investigation into the murder of Eddie Fitzmaurice has been coordinated from Charlestown and Swinford Garda Stations.  Despite exhaustive efforts to identify the suspects, nobody has been arrested to date with this crime.

The murder investigation has remained ongoing for the past twenty years. During this period of time it has been reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Eddie Fitzmaurice was 83 years old and lived alone.  He ran his own drapery shop for many years.  Eddie was a popular member of the community, who went about his day to day business, in a quiet gentle manner.

Twenty years on, An Garda Síochána are continuing to appeal for the public’s help.

Appeal:

• Investigating Gardaí believe that with the passage of time and a change in circumstances people who have information may now be in a position to come forward now.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information, however insignificant they feel it is to come forward and allow the investigation team to assess it.

• The family of Eddie Fitzmaurice are elderly, Gardaí would urge people with information to come forward and bring the Fitzmaurice family some closure.

Gardaí at Dundrum Garda station are investigating the murder of forty-eight-year-old Felix McCann whose remains were discovered on 23rd January 1998 at 5.20pm in a disused shed at Dún Gaoithe on the Kilgobbin Road, Sandyford, Co. Dublin. He had been seriously assaulted.

Gardaí launched an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the movements of Felix in the hours before he died and have established that Felix arrived in Sandyford between 12.30am - 1am on the 23rd of January, when he was dropped off at a house at Bearna Park estate. However, he was unable to visit or stay there as the occupant was out for the evening. At 1.15am at the same location a couple driving past observed a man leaning against a hedge near the entrance to the estate. The description of this man matches that of Felix. At 1.35am a taxi driver observed two men walking along Sandyford road towards Dun Gaoithe, again the description matches that of Felix. The man with Felix was described as about thirty years old, five foot seven inches in height wearing a black anorak with shoulder length unwashed curly black hair.

Felix is described as 48 years old man, five foot eight inches in height with slightly receding greying brown hair. He was wearing blue corduroy trousers with a canvas belt, a black double breasted raincoat with a white padded lining, a white shirt and t-shirt. A blue blanket was found in the shed which Felix was known to have with him.

Appeal:

• Gardaí would like further information on the man who was in Felix McCann’s company at 1.35am at the top of Sandyford Village.

• Gardaí are anxious for any member of the public to come forward with information that they may have thought was trivial or irrelevant at the time.

• Gardaí appeal to anyone who has personal knowledge or information about the murder of Felix McCann, and who felt unable to pass it on to the Gardaí in 1998 for whatever reason. Now with the passage of time that person may feel in a position to give that vital piece of information.  We are confident that there are people with this crucial information.

Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who may be in a position to assist the investigation with information as to who Geidre was with on the night of the 29th May and who may know what happened to Geidre that night.

James Molyneaux received a lift by car to the flat complex from the nearby Ballybough area. On arrival he visited a flat and as he was leaving a man approached and shot him, fatally injuring him.

The man with the gun then ran to a waiting white Renault Kangoo van registration number 10D126064, which then travelled right onto North Strand road and turned right again onto Ossory road. The van then made its way through the Eastwall area, before it crossed over the East Link toll bridge. The van was abandoned close to the toll bridge/ York road Ringsend, where at least one occupant fled on foot towards Pembroke cottages and Canon Mooney Gardens.

The van was set alight and recovered by Gardaí a short time later. It was partially damaged by the fire.

Appeal:

• Gardaí would like to thank the public for their assistance to date and would welcome any further assistance.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen the white van or its occupant(s) at the James Larkin House flats complex on the evening of the murder.

• Anyone as who may have seen the white van as it drove from the scene at James Larkin House to where it was abandoned at York road, Ringsend.

• Did anyone see the van being abandoned and set alight.

• Did anyone see the occupant(s) of the van head from York Road, towards Pembroke Cottages towards Canon Mooney Gardens.

• The suspect was wearing a dark colour, possibly black top and hat.

• The van was purchased on the 12th January in the Palmerstown area of Dublin. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who knows where was the van parked or stored in the intervening period.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road Garda Station in Limerick are continuing to investigate the murder of nineteen-year-old Jeffrey Hannon that occurred between 3am and 3.35am on the morning of Thursday, 22nd November 2007.

Jeffrey Hannon attended a bonfire in the O’Malley Park estate, Southill, Limerick on the Wednesday evening. Jeffrey was found dead with serious head injuries in O’Malley Park at approximately 10.40am the following morning.

This extensive investigation has been ongoing for over ten years, a number of people have been arrested as part of the investigation, it remains a live and active case.

The investigating team have received tremendous assistance from the public in their investigation to date and would like to thank the public and community for their help and assistance so far. 

However, Gardaí are urging anyone with information, however insignificant they may feel it is to come forward now and assist the investigation.

Gardaí at Mountjoy Garda Station are continue to investigate the murder of thirty-seven-year-old Michael Keogh, who was shot and fatally injured in an underground carpark in Sheridan Court Apartments on Dorset Street on Wednesday 31st May 2017.

Michael was due to start a new job that morning and made his way to his car in the underground carpark at around 7am. Earlier that morning at around 6.30am two men in a silver Opel Astra car drove into the car park and parked in a space. As Michael got to his car he was shot a number of times, seconds later the silver Opel Astra car left the car park. Michael’s body was discovered a short time later.

The Opel Astra left Sheridan Court apartments, turned right onto Dorset street and drove towards Drumcondra, turned right onto Clonliffe Road and right onto Clonliffe Avenue into a laneway just under the railway bridge. One of the men set the car alight while the other man discarded the keys.

The silver Opel Astra car was stolen between the 11th & 12th of April 2017 from Melrose Avenue, Clontarf.

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this murder to come forward
• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information as to where the Opel Astra car was between the 11th of April and the 31st May 2017. The car was fitted with a cloned registration number plate, partial registration 12D.
• That Wednesday morning was a very bright morning with clear weather, several commuters were travelling to work, Gardaí would like to speak to anyone who may have seen these two men in the Ballybough area of Dublin after 7am to come forward.

Gardaí at Blanchardstown Garda Station continue to investigate the murder of twenty-six-year-old Paul Cullen, who was shot and fatally wounded on Sunday 3rd March 2013 in the Cabra House public house.

At around 5.55pm on that Sunday, Paul entered the Cabra House pub where he socialised with a number of patrons inside the pub for over an hour.

At approximately 7.05pm a motorcycle drove past the Cabra House pub and performed a U-turn on Fassaugh Avenue where the driver pulled on onto the footpath outside the pub. The pillion passenger got off the motorcycle and entered the pub, he walked towards Paul and shot him a number of times fatally wounding him.

The man exited the pub and got back onto the waiting motorcycle which travelled along Fassaugh Avenue turning left onto Broombridge Road towards Finglas, via Rathoath road, Tolka Valley road and left onto Cardiffbridge road. The motorcycle travelled the length of Cardiffsbridges road onto Mellows road before turning left onto Finglaswood road. Gardaí believe it then travelled northbound along the North road towards the N2.

The motorcyle is described as a mid-power range Sports bike, white and red in colour, possibly a Honda CBR, late to mid-1990’s model.

• Gardaí would firstly like to thank the communities of Finglas and Cabra for their assistance to date, however if there are people within the community who are now in a position to come forward with information, Gardaí would encourage them to do so now.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to the motorcycle involved in Paul’s murder to come forward, the motorcycle was never recovered and there were no further sightings of the motorcycle after the 3rd March.

Gardaí at Shannon Garda Station are continuing to investigate the murder of Robert Sheehan that occurred in the early hours of Sunday the 2nd September 2012.  

At approximately 3.45am twenty-one-year-old Robert Sheehan was shot and fatally wounded outside the Bunratty Castle Hotel in County Clare. Robert was attending his older brother’s wedding when two men dressed in dark clothing, drove into the car park and shot him several times. 

The gunmen left in a large dark coloured car towards the Shannon / Clonmoney areas. 

The following day, Monday the 3rd of September, Robert Sheehan died at the Midwestern Regional Hospital in Limerick. 

Appeal: 

·         It is now over six years since the murder of Robert, and Gardaí are appealing to people who have information but have not come forward to do so now. Especially that felt they couldn’t at the time, but can do so now.

·         A large dark coloured car was used by the gunmen, this car exited the car park in a westerly direction towards Shannon /Clonmoney.

·         A Crime stoppers reward exists for information critical to the investigation.

·         Information on those responsible for this murder or any other information that may assist the investigation.

Gardaí at Ballymun Garda Station are investigating the murder of forty-five-year-old Robert Sheridan who was shot and fatally injured on Friday 5th October 2018 at Poppintree Crescent.

Robert had just been to a nearby shop and returned home shortly after 10pm. At around 11.10pm, Robert was alerted to a noise at the rear French patio door of his house. He opened the door and was confronted by two men. Robert was shot and fatally wounded by one of the men.

Gardaí believe two men entered Poppintree Park from the direction of Willow Park Road shortly after 11pm. After entering the park, the men may have exited onto Poppintree crescent by jumping over the gate or fences close to the victim’s house.

Gardaí believe that the men approached the victims home and one of them shot him at close range.

Gardaí believe they ran back in the same direction, possibly jumping over the gate before exiting onto Willow Park Road. 

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the park or the vicinity of Willow Park road and Poppintree Crescent on that Friday night. There would have been plenty of people around, young people, dog walkers in the area at the time.
• Anyone who observed the two men either prior to or after the murder, especially as they made their escape on Willow Park road?
• Anyone with any information regarding Roberts murder, matter how insignificant they believe it to be to contact the programme.

Gardaí at Leixlip Garda Station continue to investigate the murder of twenty-four-year-old Silvestras Stoskus whose remains were discovered in a field in Broadford, Kildare on the 18th March 2015.

Silvestras was reported missing by his parents on 10th March 2015, they had last seen him at their home at Bun Daire, Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath on the 8th March 2015, they became alarmed when he hadn’t returned home, his parents believed he had been out socialising with friends on the 8th March.

Ten days later, on the 18th March, the remains of Silvestras were found by a man out walking his dog, Silvestras had been severely assaulted and died as a result of his injuries.

Appeal:

• Gardaí launched an extensive investigation and received invaluable assistance from the Kinnegad community, however they are now making a direct appeal to those with information did not come forward at the time and who may now be in a position to come forward to do so now.

Gardaí at Carrick on Shannon are continuing to investigate the murder of local man Patrick Heeran who was last seen at Aughavas, Mohill, Co. Leitrim on 3rd October 2011 at 4.20pm. Patrick was reported missing from his home and to date his body has not been recovered.

Gardaí are appealing for assistance from the public in relation to a number of incidents that occurred in 2011, that caused Patrick to fear for his safety.

Gardaí are appealing to any person(s) who were directly or indirectly involved in the incidents in 2011 and to any persons who may be in possession of information relating to any of these incidents.

Any person(s) that may have knowledge of what happened to Patrick are urged to come forward. Gardaí would particularly like to appeal to any person(s) who saw callers to the home of Patrick Heeran prior to him being reported missing.

Finally, Gardaí appeal to all friends, neighbours, visitors to Aughavas, Co. Leitrim who may be in a position to assist the investigation to do so.

It has been over 7 years since Patrick Heeran was last seen alive and his family are most anxious to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion. The Crimecall team travelled to Leitrim to speak with Pat’s family who appeal for the public’s assistance.

Gardaí at Tallaght Garda Station are investigating the murder of sixty-three-year-old Michael McCoy who died as a result of an assault. His body was discovered at a forest track on Ballinascorney Road Upper, Brittas, Co. Dublin. 

On Thursday 29th September 2016, Michael took his two dogs for a walk in the nearby forest. His red Daihatsu Cuore car was parked at the entrance to the forest by at least 8.30am that morning. 

Michael’s wife returned home that evening at around 5.30pm but Michael wasn’t there. She became alarmed at around 7pm when he still had not returned home. Michael’s wife and one of his daughters went looking for him and found his car parked at the forest. They searched for Michael and called out for the dogs. They were worried as they thought he may have had a fall. They contacted the Gardaí who utilised the services of the local Mountain Rescue Units. They searched the woods and found Michael lying on a footpath in the early hours of the 30th September. He had been assaulted and was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Michael’s wife and three daughters make an emotional appeal for help and assistance from the public.

Gardaí at Bray Garda Station are investigating a robbery incident and unauthorised taking of a car that occurred on Sunday 27th May 2018 in the Sally Gap area in Co. Wicklow. 

A couple parked their car, a red Ford Mondeo, beside a bridge known as the Sean Kelly Bridge at the Sally Gap. They decided to go for a walk and take photographs of the scenery. At approximately 6.50pm a black Peugeot 307 car with three male occupants drove pass them. The men stared out through to the window at the couple. The car travelled for about 100 metre before turning around and coming back towards them. 

The car stopped on the road, the three men got out and approached the couple. The men were aggressive and demanded the couple’s phones and wallets. Two of the men were armed with iron bars and a car jack. The men surrounded the couple and threatened them. One of the men demanded the keys to their car. 

Once they had the keys the three men got back into their car and drove the short distance to the couple’s car. The suspect who was sitting in the front seat of the Peugeot car got into the injured parties car and drove off towards Tallaght. 

Around fifteen minutes after the incident, a man who got out of a black Peugeot 307 was seen attempting to use the injured parties bank card at a service station in Jobstown. He was wearing a black and white Adidas t-shirt and a red baseball cap. 

The couple’s car was recovered in Drumcara Avenue, Tallaght at 10.30pm the following night. 

Description of offenders:

1– front seat passenger wearing white short sleeved shirt.

2 – (driver) wearing dark clothing and had stubble - not better described

3 – back seat passenger wearing a white t-shirt. 

Appeal: 

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward.
• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen the black Peugeot 307 in the area on that day or in the days leading up to it.
• The couple’s car was a red Ford Mondeo partial registration number 08-LS, Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen the car in the time between the robbery and when it was discovered the following day to please come forward with any information they might have.
• CCTV footage was captured of the man using the stolen card at the service station in Jobstown. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may recognise this individual to please come forward with any information as to his identity.

Gardaí at Ballinamore are investigating a sexual assault that occurred on Sunday 3rd June 2018 at a festival in Drumcoura, a townland between Ballinamore and Carrigallen.

A group of friends rented a number of Tepees tents in the camping area. In the early hours of Sunday morning they decided to go to bed and settled into their tents. At approximately 5.30am one of the women woke up and discovered a man lying beside her on her sleeping bag. The woman was sexually assaulted. The woman screamed and alerted her friends. The man calmly left the tent in the direction of the exit. 

An EVOFIT was compiled of the suspect who is described as being in his thirties with sandy coloured hair wearing blue denim jeans, blue checked shirt with black slip on shoes. 

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to the public to consider the description together with the EVOFIT in an attempt to identify the suspect.
• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward.

Gardaí at Ballinamore Garda Station are invstigating tel: 071 96 44002

Gardaí at Irishtown Garda Station are investigating a sexual assault that occurred in the early hours of Sunday 9th December 2018. 

The injured party left a hotel in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 at around 12.45am to get a taxi home. At around 2am the injured party got into the white taxi on Serpentine Avenue. This car travelled through the Southside towards the City centre before crossing onto the Northside where it drove towards Emmet Street. The taxi parked on Emmet Street, where it remained for over thirty minutes. Gardaí believe the woman was sexually assaulted at this location.  

The suspect is described as being in his late twenties approximately 27 to 35 years old with short dark hair, a beard and was wearing glasses and a short sleeved shirt. 

Appeal: 

• Anyone in the Shelbourne Road or Serpentine Avenue area between 12.45am to 2am to come forward. They are also appealing to anyone who may have been in the Emmet Street area of Dublin 1 area from 2am to 3am to please come forward.
• So far, a number of witnesses have come forward and assisted the investigation, however Gardaí are appealing to anyone who has not come forward and who may have encountered the injured party on the night to please come forward.
• Gardaí are appealing to motorists in these areas with dash cam footage to please come forward.

Gardaí at Sundrive Road are investigating a sexual assault that occurred on Sunday 20th May 2018 between 5am & 5.30am on Mount Argus Road, Harold’s Cross, Dublin 12.

The victim and suspect met near a bookmakers on Grafton Street. They walked together on the left hand side of the road onto Dame Street, Christchurch, left onto Clanbrassil Street towards the canal over Harold’s Cross Bridge.

They walked along Harold’s Cross road towards Mount Jerome Cemetery and right onto Mount Argus Road where the victim was sexually assaulted.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen a man and a woman standing near a car on Mount Argus Road, they are particularly interested in a couple who spoke with the victim and suspect here.

A detailed EVOFIT was compiled of the suspect, who is described as six-foot-tall with broad shoulders, black hair with a beard. He was wearing a dark jacket, beige coloured trousers and black shoes. He was able to converse in Spanish.

Chief Superintendent Sean Ward from Dublin’s Store Street Garda Station was in studio to offer advice to the public in relation to the St. Patrick’s Day parade route, public transport arrangements, family friendly events, prohibited alcohol consumption and road closures adjacent to and along the route.

Gardaí at the Stolen Cars Unit, National Bureau of Criminal Investigations are investigating a car scam that left the victim several thousand Euros out of pocket.

In the early hours of Saturday 25th March 2017 a silver Nissan Qashqai was stolen from the driveway of a house in Woodbrook Glen, Bray, Co. Wicklow.

A few days later on the 29th March the vehicle appeared on a car buyer’s website for sale for just over €7000. The registration of the car was cloned from another Nissan Qashqai legitimately for sale. A man looking for a new car saw the Nissan Qashqai for sale and contacted the seller who gave his name as John Byrne of T.K. Recovery in Kildare. The man agreed to buy the car requesting his mechanic carry out an examination on the car first. John Byrne stated that he would send an employee, known as Alex to meet him in a car park at Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork.

On 31st March the man met Alex as arranged who presented the vehicle to him, they briefly conversed in Polish. The man’s mechanic carried out an inspection on the car and cleared it for the sale. Alex presented the relevant documents and they appeared legitimate to the buyer. When the sale was complete, Alex stated that he had to get the bus home. The buyer filled out his details in the log book and posted it that day. An airbag light came on the car that day but when the buyer attempted to contact John Byrne, the number was disconnected. When he didn’t receive the new log book he contacted the department of transport office in Shannon who informed him there was a discrepancy with the details. The victim contacted Gardaí who then confirmed the car was stolen.

During the sale of the vehicle, the buyer took a photograph on his phone of the seller, Alex. Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to the identity of this man to come forward.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road Garda Station in Limerick are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death of Raymond Mullane who was found dead in his home at 35 Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick on the 24th of December 2008.

Raymond was sixty (60) years of age, single and lived alone. He kept a simple lifestyle and a small circle of friends. Raymond last confirmed sighting alive was on the 17th December 2008 at his home.

Raymond’s body was discovered over a week later on Christmas Eve.  It is now nearly ten years since Raymond death and his family are still devastated with his loss and are seeking answers and closure. Raymond Mullane’s death is being treated as suspicious and an extensive investigation was launched at Roxboro Road Garda Station. Over one hundred and thirty (130) statements have been taken to date and three hundred and seventy (370) lines of enquiry pursued. The people of Limerick City have been of great assistance to Gardaí and we sincerely thank them for that.

Gardaí at Coolock Garda Station are investigating a theft from a cash in transit van that occurred on Saturday 28th April 2018 at approximately 2pm. 

Two suspects gained entry to the van, which was also taken during the incident and subsequently found abandoned with fire damage in the Clongriffin area of north county Dublin. 

A large white van, bearing the registration number 08D27550, which was also used by the suspects and later found abandoned with fire damage in the Clongriffin area. 

Gardaí believe the suspects made their way over the train line in Clongriffin in the general direction of Myrtle housing estate.

On this month’s programme Garda Derek Cloughley was in studio to discuss the dangerous effects of hailstones for all road users. This freak weather can happen at any time of the year and can cause severe damage and injuries to all road users.

Garda Derek Cloughley was in studio to discuss the problem that drivers encounter in relation to “daytime running lights”. Garda Cloughley advised drivers of the common problems associated with the issue and how it can be avoided. He reviewed the 2017 fatalities - it was the safest year on record. He also discussed the aims and objectives of the 2018 Roads Policing Plan, referencing some of the national operations scheduled, including a Pan European Operation Enable.

On this month’s traffic segment Garda Derek Cloughley was in studio to discuss the ever present issue of speeding. Excessive speed was found to be a contributory factor in 32% of fatal collisions between 2008 and 2012. 

Garda Cloughley illustrated this advice with examples of compliance and non-compliance including some frightening excessive speeds from 2017. (GoSafe data).

In addition, Garda Cloughley looked at some detections from this year, including images which were posted on Garda social media sites. Finally, Garda Cloughley offered some sound information and advice to avoid risk on the road.

Road Safety

On this month’s traffic segment Garda Derek Cloughley was on patrol on a Garda Motorcycle with a view to offering motorcyclists advice in relation to their personal protective equipment, (PPE).

This advice was timely given that amount of motorcyclists using our roads at this time of the year is on the increase and is expected to increase throughout the summer months. Garda Cloughley was in studio covering such topics as visibility, the high risk period ahead and offering general advice to both motorcyclists and other road users.

On this month’s Road Safety segment, the Crimecall team accompanied Garda Derek Cloughley as he patrolled the motorways encountering examples of bad driving. The purpose of the filmed piece is mainly advisory aimed at highlighting safe motorway driving. Garda Cloughley offered advice in relation to some of the examples he encountered such as:

• What to do in case of an emergency – pull into the hard shoulder and stand behind the safety barrier.
• How to respond to an emergency vehicle approaching - move into the left lanes
• Undertaking - exercise caution as you don’t know what the driver to your right will do
• Reading VMS signs (Variable Messaging System)

On this month’s traffic segment Garda Derek Cloughley was in studio to discuss what has been happening on the roads over the summer months. Garda Cloughley also discussed the ever present issue of non-use of safety belts. Unfortunately, far too many people still fail to use this most basic form of road safety.  Wearing a safety belt could be the difference between life and death in a collision. The Crimecall team travelled to Letterkenny to talk to the Roads Policing Unit and Dr. Gerry Lane about their experience of attending road traffic collisions where non wearing of seatbelts was a factor that caused serious injuries and death.

On this month’s traffic segment Garda Derek Cloughley was in studio to discuss the importance of visibility especially with the clocks going back, it will be darker for longer, which is why pedestrian visibility is crucial over the coming months.

Garda Derek Cloughley discussed some stark road safety facts and offered advice on how to protect yourself when out walking on the road, including when socialising.

In addition, he discussed simple DIY measures to help make your car “winter ready”.”

On this month’s traffic segment Garda Derek Cloughley was in studio focusing on driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The recent change in legislation means that all drivers found in excess of the legal alcohol limit will face an automatic driving ban for a minimum of 3 months. Garda Cloughley discussed the dangers associated with the “morning after” and offered advice on how to ensure you are alcohol free and fit to drive.

As a follow on from last month’s topic, and with the approach of the Christmas party season, Garda Cloughley also offered advice to those out socialising that have decided to be responsible and leave the car at home. Our message is to get home safe, and not overdo it with alcohol and put yourself in danger on the roads.

On this month’s traffic segment Garda Derek Cloughley was in studio to discuss learner drivers driving unaccompanied and the relative offences associated with this offence. Garda Cloughley discussed the legal requirements that are vital for road safety for both the driver and vehicle owner. Garda Cloughley also discussed the legislation being introduced in the 2018 Road Traffic Amendment Act, which effectively means a leaner driver found driving unaccompanied may have their vehicle impounded, and incur a fee is payable to have it released.

The Crimecall team travelled to Cork to interview Noel Clancy who lost his wife and daughter in a collision involving an unaccompanied learner driver.

Finally, Garda Cloughley discussed the current road safety campaign targeting intoxicated driving and will give up to date statistics and renew the road safety appeal.

On this month’s traffic segment Garda Derek Cloughley was in studio to discuss some emerging trends regarding safety on our roads, together with some facts & figures including a breakdown of road user groups and comparison with last year’s figures.

Garda Cloughley advised all road users in relation to the Summer period and seasonal risks associated with:

• Residents and tourists visiting unfamiliar locations
• Schools off - children playing
• Increase in agricultural vehicles
• Cyclists and motorcyclists

Finally, Garda Cloughley highlighted that Ireland was the fourth safest EU country for road deaths in 2017. In terms of 2018 the month of May was the safest month ever on record with 6 road deaths. Unfortunately, this month so far 15 deaths have occurred. Therefore, it is important that all road users make a big effort to be safety conscious and take the necessary measures to prevent mistakes being made.

Gardaí from Howth Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding an unauthorised taking and abduction incident that occurred on Friday 12th January 2018 at approximately 7.35am in the Parkvale estate, Baldoyle Dublin 13.

The injured party placed his one-year-old child in a car seat in the back of his black Opel Vectra, registration number 05D66688.  He put his car keys into the ignition in order to warm up the car and defrost the windows. He went back into his house briefly to retrieve some items and when he returned to his car it was being driven out of the driveway by an unknown man. The incident was immediately reported to the Gardaí and a wide scale search was conducted for the car and the baby.

Approximately one hour later the black Vectra car was located by Gardaí in a temporary carpark close to Clongriffin Train station. It was parked in a very remote area and the baby was still in the baby seat in the back of the car unharmed.

Following an investigation Gardaí believe that the culprits drove to the Parkvale estate in a stolen Honda Fit car, registration number 04KE16188. This vehicle had been stolen in the Ashbourne area the night before the incident. One of the culprits got out of this car and got into the Opel Vectra and drove it away with the baby still in the backseat. This Honda Fit car then followed the Vectra out of the estate.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed these 2 vehicles and/or the occupants of these vehicles on the 12th January 2018.

• Gardaí wish to appeal to the public who were around the Clongriffin Train station area on the morning of the 12th January 2018 between the hours of 7.35am to 8am.

Gardaí at Salthill Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body at Rusheen Bay Woods, Barna, Co. Galway on 27th September 2014.

Gardaí are satisfied the man died some four to six weeks prior to when his body was discovered and decomposition had set in adding to the difficulty in identifying him as there was no identification found on the man’s body.

Gardaí launched an extensive investigation in the hope of identifying the remains. The assistance of Forensic Science Ireland and The University of Dundee, Scotland was required to assist with the investigation, a number of forensic & DNA testing was conducted on the remains as well as dental examinations. Doctor Christopher Rynn, Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification at the University of Dundee carried out a forensic analysis on the remains and was provided with a 3D scan of the man’s skull to reconstruct the man’s face based on those findings.

The man is described as aged between forty-three and forty-eight years old, of large build. He was wearing a leather jacket, Athletech fleece with runners. He was wearing a gold bracelet watch not currently sold in Europe. The watch brand - Caravelle by Bulova is commonly available in retail outlets in Canada / America. A representative from Bulova Watches has confirmed that this particular watch was only sold in the USA and Canada. He had a distinctive gap in his top front teeth. A single key was found along with a small sum of money in sterling and euro notes.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may recognise the man from the reconstructed face and together with the description of the man’s clothing may be in a position to identify him.

• Gardaí are now seeking the assistance of the public including the tourism industries i.e. proprietors of Hotels, B&B’s, Hostels, tour companies, coffee shops etc., together with private landlords, in identifying the deceased and in tracing the movements of the deceased from June 2014 to September 2014.

• Gardaí are seeking the assistance of the general public in identifying the deceased.

• Gardaí are appealing to the public who have family and friends living in the UK, USA and Canada to circulate the facial reconstructed image of the deceased via social media e.g. twitter and facebook.

Gardaí at Claremorris Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of twenty-one-year-old, Joe Deacy who was found unconscious with head injuries in a driveway of a house in Gortnasillagh, Co. Mayo on Saturday 12th August 2017.

Joe was from St. Albans in the United Kingdom but his family have relatives and friends in the west of Ireland, specifically Galway and Mayo. Joe loved soccer and Gaelic Football and spent several summers as a young boy in the west of Ireland visiting family and friends. During his teenage years Joe maintained contact with family, friends and cousins and visited them often, attending the Galway races and Gaelic Football matches.

On the 11th of August 2017, Joe had been in Ireland visiting relatives and friends. He went to a bar known locally as Paddy’s bar in Kiltimagh. Later Joe returned to the house where he was staying in the townland of Gortnasillagh.

At 6.45am on Saturday morning, 12th August, Joe was found unconscious in the driveway of the house with head injuries. Joe died at Beaumont Hospital the following day from his injuries.

Joe’s family made an emotional appeal for information from the public.

Gardaí at Kilmainham Garda Station are investigating an unlawful seizure of a vehicle that occurred in the Phoenix Park on Saturday 10th June 2018. 

A couple and their fourteen-month old child were visiting Dublin for the first time, they arrived in Ireland on Saturday 10th June 2018 and hired a car, a silver Nissan Qashqai registration number 181WX2095.  At around 9.30pm they decided to go for a drive through Dublin City centre to sightsee. They drove towards the Phoenix Park in an attempt to get their daughter to sleep who was in the back of the car. 

At around 10.35pm they decided to go back to their accommodation, they drove down Wellington road towards the exit for Conyngham Road. Suddenly a man appeared from the right hand side and walked towards the middle of the road. The couple slowed their car down to allow the man to cross, he then ran towards the driver’s door opening it, he was armed with a knife and threatened the couple, demanding they get out of the car. The injured party got out and handed over his wallet, just then a second man appeared at the front passenger door, he grabbed the woman and demanded she got out of the car. They managed to get their child out of the back of the car before the suspects drove off. The couple raised the alarm with the assistance of a passer-by. 

The car was recovered the next day on Ava Maria Road, Rialto, Dublin 8. 

An Evofit was compiled of one of the suspects who is described as being in his late thirties, five foot ten inches in height of stocky build with a pale complexion, clean shaven, tightly cut hair light in colour.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Conyngham Road area and witnessed this incident.
• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Ava Maria road area who may have seen the Nissan Qashqai being abandoned.
• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information or who may be in a position to identify the suspect from the EVOFIT.
