The retired fisherman had settled in for the night in front of the television, while having his dinner.  At approximately 9.40pm he thought he heard someone at the front door and went to open it.  Two raiders pushed the door open and shoved the man back knocking him to the floor.  The man tried to resist, but the raiders hit him about the head.  The raiders found a shotgun in the house and pointed it at the man demanding money.  They tried to handcuff his wrists but he struggled against them, and they gave up.  One of the raiders found the man’s wallet in his back pocked, there was a sizeable amount of money in it which they took.

Eventually the raiders ran out the front door when the man told them they had all his money. A neighbour heard the commotion and saw the raiders running down the alley way to the side of the house. 

Description of Raiders:

Raider 1: Five Foot Eight inches in height, medium build. Wearing a dark hoodie. Approximately 35 years old.

Raider 2: Five Foot Nine inches in height, with a stocky build, broad shoulders, navy blue hoodie with cream / white coloured strips on the back in a U shaped design. Approximately 35 years old.

Both raiders wore hoodies, with their hoods up, no masks. And they both wore gloves.

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information that may assist with the identification of  the suspects

• The man’s wallet has not been recovered, it was a brown leather wallet over thirty years old.

• Any commercial institution and/or premises in the area that received large notes from a person in suspicious circumstances following the above incident.

• Did anyone observe a vehicle parked in the area at the back of Church View or the graveyard in Dromiskin?

• Did anyone at Clogherhead Harbour area observe anyone acting suspiciously on the morning of the 14th of March.

• Did anyone in Dromiskin Church View area observe anyone acting suspiciously on the evening of the 14th of March.

• The raiders stole the man’s shotgun, an over and under Larranaga shot gun.

The house is situated in Coolteen, Drumfin, Co. Sligo.  A local business man lives here with his partner and her child, who had just recently moved to Sligo from Bulgaria.  She stayed in for the evening on Saturday, the 31st March, while her partner and son went to a Sligo Rovers match in the town.

Later that evening, at about 9.30pm, the woman was in the sitting room on her laptop catching up with friends on a social networking site.  She heard the dog barking in the hallway and went to investigate.  She got as far as the kitchen door where a man wearing a balaclava was standing.  She attempted to run out the front door but the raider grabbed her and pulled her to the ground.  He dragged the woman outside to the side of the house and forced her to sit down and keep her head down.  It was at this point the woman noticed a second raider who appeared to have come from the back door.  He was carrying two plastic bags.  The two raiders were talking amongst themselves, the woman saw her opportunity to escape and ran out of the garden and screamed for help.  She alerted one of her neighbours and contacted the Gardaí.

The raiders stole a substantial amount of money from the house and the woman’s Alcatel mobile phone.

Description of Raiders:

Raider 1:  The first raider was six foot in height of muscular build, he wore dark clothes and a black balaclava, he had latex gloves on.

Raider 2:    The second raider was smaller than the 1st raider, of thin build and appeared younger. He was also dressed in dark clothing.

Appeal:

• Anyone who was in the area of Drumfin on the night of this incident and may have witnessed anything suspicious, to come forward.

• Anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles in the area, to come forward.

• The injured party’s black Alcatel mobile phone was stolen and has not been recovered.

At approximately 8.20pm, staff at the Síopa An Phobail supermarket closed up for the evening. One of the shop assistants secured the premises and set the alarm. He left the forecourt of the supermarket and went to visit a friend nearby, he left his friend’s house and went to a local garage to buy phone credit. He then travelled to the Poitin Still Public house in Lochanbeg where he socialised with some friends.

At 11.45pm the shop assistant said goodnight to his friends and got into his car which was parked in the car park of the pub. As he was about to start the engine, the front passenger door opened, a masked and armed man got into the car and threatened the shop assistant. The raider was armed with a gun and pointed it at the shop assistant. He told him to drive out of the car park and told him to turn right. He directed him to drive along the Carraroe Road towards the Galway Road, where the raider told the shop assistant to stop the car outside his house. The raider threatened the shop assistant again, informing him that he knew where he lived and to take him to the shop. The raider ordered the shop assistant to pull into the car park of Colaiste Lurgan School, where he quickly spoke on his mobile phone. The raider demanded the shop assistant hand over his mobile phone before ordering him to drive over to the supermarket and open up.

Once inside the shop the raiders told the shop assistant to take him to the safe and ordered him to fill his bag with money. The raider brought the shop assistant to a toilet where he placed him on a chair and tied his arms and legs to it.

The raider fled in the shop assistant’s car, which was later found abandoned at Bohoona, Spiddal.

Description of Raider:

Raider: Six foot in height of medium to heavy build, wearing a balaclava, dark jacket and trousers with white/cream latex gloves.
 

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone in the Spiddal area on Monday night the 30th of July into the early hours of Tuesday the 31st July 2012 who may have information in relation to this incident to come forward.

It was just after midnight and the owner of the pub had just left to drive customers home, there was three customers still in the bar and he barman was beginning to lock up for the night.  The barman went down to the kitchen area but when he tried to open the door it was blocked.  When the barman pushed the door, a man stepped out with a large knife in his hand.  The raider demanded to know where the safe was and he forced the barman to bring him to the safe.  At this stage a second raider appeared and was anxious that the customers in the bar would see them.  The raiders made the barman get down on the floor and open the safe.  They took the contents of the safe and one of the raiders also took a bottle of spirits and placed it in a large bag.  They brought the barman out the back of the pub, took his mobile phone from him and locked him in a store room.  The barman could hear a car driving away.

The raiders made their getaway in a car registration number 09D2357, a grey Toyota Avensis.  This car was stolen during a burglary in Cabinteely on the 23rd January 2012, it was recovered in Brookfield View in Tallaght at 8.30pm on Monday, the 30th January.

The first raider was about five foot ten inches in height and of slim build, he wore a cream/white rain jacket with the hood pulled around his face, with black tracksuit bottoms and black gloves.  The second raider was smaller and of slightly heavier build.  They both spoke with Waterford accents.

Appeal:

• Anyone who was in the area at this time of the incident and who may have observed anything suspicious in the area to come forward.

• Anyone with any information in relation to the burglary in Cabinteely and the unauthorised taking of the grey Toyota Avensis registration number 09D2357. Did you see this car between the 23rd and 29th of January?

• Did you see this car in Brookfield View on Monday the 30th January 2012.

A mother and two of her daughters aged six and two were at home for the evening.  The woman had just filled a bath for her six year old daughter while the youngest was asleep in her mother’s bed.  The woman let her dogs out the front door and was confronted by two masked men in her hallway.  They threatened the woman and demanded to know where the safe was.  The woman pleaded with them.  One of the raiders stood over the woman, while the second man searched the house.  They took turns searching and continued to make threats, demanding money and jewellery.  They ransacked the house for almost two hours.  The men took a number of items of jewellery, together with mobile phones and cash.

Eventually they made their getaway in the woman’s green Landrover jeep partial registration number 06D.  They stole valuable jewellery, a large quantity of cash in US Dollars, three phones and the CCTV hard drive.  They also damaged to phone lines.  They abandoned the jeep minutes later in Coundon Court, Killiney.

Raider 1: Five Foot Ten inches in height, slim build, wearing dark woollen hat, dark coloured scarf covering his mouth, Dark hoody top, plain navy tracksuit bottoms, green and beige gardening gloves and spoke with a Dublin accent.

Raider 2:  Five Foot Ten inches in height, slim build, wearing dark woollen hat, dark scarf, red hoody with baggy navy tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down each leg, dirty plain white runners, dark gloves and spoke with a Dublin accent.

Appeal:

• Any suspicious sightings in the area in the weeks before this incident.

• Anybody in the area on the night of the 4th April between 9pm and 11pm.

• The raiders abandoned the Landrover nearby, did anyone witness suspicious activity at Coundon Court.

At 2.30am three masked men approached the back of the house. They were armed with two crowbars and an axe.

They forced their way in through the back door and approached the bedroom, where the couple of the house were asleep in bed. The raiders stood over the couple and woke them up, they forced them onto the floor and tied their hands.  Two of the raiders took the man downstairs, leaving the third raider guarding the woman.

A short time later one of the raiders brought the woman downstairs to an office where her husband was being held.

During the one hour ordeal the men took a gold coloured “Senator” safe, several paintings, and a picture frame containing fifty to sixty butterflies. They also stole several items of jewellery including two men’s watches a “Raymondville” watch and a “Milius” watch. The raiders also stole a Samsung galaxy mobile phone.

The raiders locked the couple into the office and made their getaway in a vehicle.The woman then managed to climb out the office window and contact the Gardaí.

Description of Raiders:

Raider 1: Over six foot tall,dublin accent, dark clothing and balaclava.

Raider 2: Five foot ten inches in height, dublin accent, dark clothing and balaclava.

Raider 3: Five foot eight inches in height,dublin accent, dark clothing and balaclava

Appeal:

• Gardaí believe there may have been a fourth person waiting in a car nearby. Did you see a car parked in Kilmacanogue between 2am and 3am.

• Some of the property stolen is very distinctive. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have come across any of the property to contact them.

• The safe is described as a “Senator” make, gold in colour, approx 2 foot square.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this crime to come forward.
 

At approximately 6.40am the residents at this house heard a noise in the front garden, one of the residents looked out a window and saw two males interfering with their cars parked in the driveway.  Two of the occupants ran out to the garden and an altercation occurred between them, the two males had broken into the shed and used implements they found there to threaten the two residents.  The two males escaped in the injured party’s white Renault Megane registration number 10C12886.  This car was recovered 48 hours later at Woodlawn Park Avenue in Firhouse

Gardaí at Kinnegad Garda Station are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred at the home of a young couple in Kinnegad.

On Monday evening, the 17th September, the couple were at home, their house is situated near Kinnegad on the Edenderry Road.  Shortly after 8pm the man left the house and went to a local public house nearby to do the weekly lottery for the local football club.  The woman was at home alone watching television.  Just before 10.30pm she took a rubbish bag from the kitchen to put it out the back.  As she opened the back door, she was confronted by three masked and armed men.  They tied her up, threatened her and kept her under watch for over two hours until her husband returned home.

One of the raiders confronted her husband in the kitchen when he got home.  The raider attacked and overpowered him.  The raiders continued to threaten the couple and demanded cash.  They stole a large quantity of electrical goods, cash and jewellery from the house before finally making their getaway.

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Kinnegad area on the night of this incident or in the days prior to this and who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward.

• The raiders stole a large amount of property, Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been offered any of the items listed to come forward.

A lone male approached the bank armed with a handgun. He entered the bank and went behind the front counter. He pointed the gun at staff and threatened them. He demanded money from the tills and the safe. He placed the money into an Addidas bag and fled on foot from the bank. He was seen nearby getting into a silver van.
 

Appeal:

• The raider was captured on CCTV in the bank, with his face uncovered wearing a black and white scarf around his neck.

• Gardaí are appealing for information on the movements of the raider before and after the robbery. The raider was seen on Railway Road at 10.15am before the robbery and heading towards the beach after the robbery.

• Anyone with information in relation to the raider and his vehicle, which is described at a silver van.

On Friday the 11th of May 2012 just before 5pm, two masked and armed men ran from a white Citroen Berlingo van and forced the front door of the bank. Both raiders were armed with handguns. They threatened the staff and demanded money. They filled a bag with money and fled. The raiders set the Berlingo van on fire as they were fleeing the scene. They made their getaway in a Blue BMW 330D bearing false registration plates. They turned from Main Street on to Rocks road and transferred into another vehicle, a black BMW M5 on Dun a Ri Lane. The raiders set the 330D BMW alight in the middle of the road.

The raiders caused extensive damage as the fire from the Berlingo van spread to a number of other vehicles parked on the main street causing extensive damage and chaos on the street.

Appeal:

• The Thursday night before this raid at around midnight, the raiders parked the blue BMW 330D in front of the bank for the night. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Kingscourt area at this time to come forward. This car was stolen during an aggravated burglary in Belfast in February 2012. The correct registration of this vehicle is ONZ4837.

• The Citroen Berlingo van was sold for scrap metal during October/November 2011. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen this vehicle between these dates.

• A raider arrived at the scene in Kingscourt on a Black/Grey Suzuki motorbike. The raider appeared to have difficulty controlling the bike and left it at the scene. Gardaí are appealing for information on the movements of this vehicle in the days and weeks prior to this incident.

• Several vehicles were involved in this raid, most vehicles were bearing false registration plates. Gardaí would like to speak to anyone who was asked to make these false plates or may have information on the movements of these vehicles.

• There was at least six raiders involved in this armed robbery all of whom had total disregard for the safety of the community. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information about this incident to come forward.

Shortly after 11pm, one of the brothers was in the kitchen making a cup of tea, while the other brother was asleep in bed.  Two masked and armed men forced their way into the kitchen via the back door. They were armed with a firearm. They pushed the elderly man onto the ground and threatened him. They then placed him on a chair and bound him to it. At this stage one of the raiders went to a bedroom where the other brother was asleep and dragged him from his bed and threatened him. The raiders demanded money and assaulted the two brothers.

This horrific ordeal lasted almost three hours. The raiders escaped with a small amount of money but left the brothers extremely distressed following this serious crime.

Description of Raiders:

Raider 1:  Five foot five inches in height of medium build, wearing a balaclava or a dark woolly hat pulled over his face with eye and mouth holes cut out, dark clothes and runners.

Raider 2: Medium build, taller than the first raider wearing a balaclava or a dark woolly hat pulled over his face with eye and mouth holes cut out with dark clothes and runners.

Appeal:

• Did you see anything suspicious in the immediate vicinity of Ballyroe on the night of Thursday the 7th of June into the early hours of Friday the 8th of June. ( There was very heavy rainfall on the Thursday night)

• Did you see any vehicles in the area on the day of this incident or the days preceding this incident?

The Gardaí at the Bridewell Garda Station and Clondalkin Garda Station have carried out extensive investigations in relation to both assaults and as a result of these investigations, they now have a forensic link between the two incidents.

 
On the 18th September 2010 a woman was sexually assaulted in the grounds of an apartment complex on Arran Quay, Dublin 7.  The woman had been out for the night and was returning home to her apartment when a man came up behind her, dragged her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. 

One year later, on the 11th September 2011 another young woman was assaulted.  This assault took place in Monastery Walk in Clondalkin, Dublin.  The young woman was on her way home from an evening out with friends, when a man came up behind her and threw her onto the ground.  He attacked her, causing significant injuries to her face. S he struggled against him and managed to get away.

Appeal:

• The Gardaí at the Bridewell Garda Station are looking to identify the man on the moped in Dublin’s Temple Bar, captured on CCTV footage and a man on arran quay.

• The Gardaí at Clondalkin Garda Station are looking to interview the male who passed the victim and said hello to her. This male wore a blue Italia Jacket.

• The victim in Clondalkin may have left marks on the attackers face and possibly a bite mark on his hand.

Shortly after 11.45am at a lay-by in Court Town Little, two men were seen jumping into a grey Opel Astra and drive away, the blue Passat was set on fire.  The Astra travelled on the M4 taking the slip road at Junction 6 for Leixlip, the two men abandoned the car here and ran across the motorway, past a council yard in direction of Celbridge.

 Appeal:

• The blue passat bearing the cloned registration plates was observed in Brayton Park at 8am the morning before the shooting, did you see this car in the area at this time?

• The passat was stolen during a burglary in Greenhills in Crumlin on the 24th November 2011. The correct registration number of the car is 06D69039. Did you see this car between the 24th of November and the 6th of December?

• This car was recovered on fire at Court Town Little, did you witness any suspicious activity at this location on the morning of the shooting?

• The Opel Astra was fitted with cloned registration plates, 09D7278.  This car was stolen during a burglary in Terenure on the 4th September 2011.  The registration number of the car is 09D23298. Did you see this car between this date and the 6th of December?

• The Opel Astra was abandoned at Junction 6 on the M4, the slip road for Leixlip, did you see the two raiders run across the motorway in the direction of Celbridge.

Just after 11.45pm on Thursday, the 7th April 2011 Violet was in bed in her home in Donaghmede Park, she woke up when she heard a noise in the house.  When she looked up she saw a man standing in her bedroom.  Violet was viciously attacked in her bed and received serious life threatening injuries.  The attacker fled and Violet managed to make it to the front bedroom of her house and alerted her neighbours who contacted the Gardaí.  There was no sign of forced entry in her home.

Thirty six hours earlier, at midday on Wednesday, the 6th April two men were seen going into Violet’s house through the front door.  The two men were seen on a neighbour’s wall making their escape.  They got into a black Opel Safira car which was parked on Donaghmede Road.

Appeal:

• Anyone who was in the Donaghmede Park area on the night of the 7th April into the early hours of the 8th April and may have seen suspicious activity

• The culprit would have had a large amount of blood stains on his clothing, did you see Violet’s attacker in the Donaghmede or surrounding area after this attack?

• Anyone with information in relation to this horrific crime to come forward and assist Gardaí to progress this investigation.

At approximately 4.30am four armed men arrived at the service station in a silver Audi A6 Saloon Car.  This car was fitted with a false registration number - OV08 WKF.

One of the raiders took up position as lookout on the main road, while the remainder forced their way into the shop and stole cigarettes, alcohol and cash.  A young woman on her way home from a party, was driving passed the garage and saw the raiders in the forecourt of the garage.  As she slowed down to take a look, the lookout raider threw a brick at her window smashing it.

The owner of the service station, responding to the alarm activation, arrived at the garage and was confronted by the lookout raider who threatened him.  The owner then left and immediately contacted the Gardaí.

Gardaí arrived at the service station and the gang made their getaway with the patrol car in pursuit.  The raiders pulled in at the side of the road and pointed, what appeared to be a firearm, out the car window at the Gardaí.  The Gardaí continued in their pursuit of the car, as it travelled at high speed with the lights out, weaving through narrow country roads, the last sighting of this vehicle was in the village of Killyon.
 

Gardaí are also investigating two other similar incidents that occurred earlier in the night both in Kingscourt and Castlepollard.

The Gardaí at Kingscourt are investigating a burglary that occurred at local shop in the town shortly after 2am.  During the burglary the front door of the shop was prised open and entry was gained to the store.  The front window was broken and a quantity of cigarettes taken.

Later that morning at 3.30am at least four men driving a dark coloured Audi A6/A8 arrived at a supermarket in Castlepollard, Co Westmeath.  On this occasion a quantity of cigarettes were stolen.  All the men wore dark clothing with their heads and faces covered.  One man wore an old Liverpool type adidas jacket with the word ‘Carlsberg’ written under the collar.

Earlier in the evening a White Man box van registration number 01G10356 was stolen from an industrial estate in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, the keys for this vehicle were stolen during a burglary two weeks previous.

The van travelled through the M50 Toll at 20.13, then through the toll at Portlaoise before arriving at Quinn Road in Ennis.

Shorty after 11.30pm the van arrived at Doora Industrial Estate and the passenger unlocked the gate and entered the premises, they drove into the yard and activated the alarm.  They left the yard then to see if the alarm activation alerted the owner, they returned a couple of minutes later, the main gates were locked by an employee from another company who was leaving the yard.  The raiders rammed the main gates and the front of the premises, causing extensive damage to the roller shutter.  The raiders cut the power cables, however the external alarm activated and notified the owner who made his was to his premises, the raiders fled colliding with the owner’s vehicle.  The raiders were pursued to Bridgetown before making their getaway.

A cash in transit van commenced a delivery to an AT.M located at a filling station at Carr’s Hill, Carrigaline.  Three armed men approached the security guards, threatened them with shotguns and demanded they hand over the cash.

The three men then ran to a black Saab car which was fitted with cloned registration plates 04C23265, which travelled in the direction of Cork city.  This vehicle turned left off the N28 and headed back towards Ballinrea Cross, they turned onto the R618 passing Fivemile Bridge and Ballinhassig.  The Saab travelled at speed with a blue light flashing on the dash board.  The Saab then continued to Ballinora Waterfall, Co. Cork where it was abandoned and set on fire in the grounds of at the back of a GAA club.

A short time earlier a woman visiting a grave at the local cemetery in Ballinora observed a man standing beside a large dark saloon type car whilst speaking on a mobile phone.  He appeared agitated.  A few minutes later as the young woman was walking away from the cemetery she observed a Fire truck arriving at the GAA Grounds where the Saab was set alight.

Appeal:

• The Saab as stolen during a burglary at a house in Garry Duff in Douglas, Cork City on the 3rd November 2011.  The registration number is 05C8017.

• This vehicle was fitted was fitted with cloned plates registration number 04C23265.

• Gardaí are appealing for any sightings of this vehicle between the 3rd November and the 11th January 2012.

• Gardaí appeal to anyone who may have made the cloned registration plates.

• Any sightings of the Saab and the raiders on the day of the robbery.

• Any sightings of this vehicle travelling through Carr’s Hill to Ballinora.

• The transfer from the Saab at Ballinora to a waiting car, Gardaí appeal to anyone who may have seen the raiders here to come forward.

At approximately 9.53am the cash in transit employees commenced the delivery to an ATM in Donaghmede Shopping Centre.

Approximately eight minutes later at 10.05am two masked and armed men got out of a Nissan X-Trail that was parked close to the security van, this jeep had drove into the shopping centre at 9.40am., two masked and armed men ran from the jeep and threatened the security staff.  They fled the scene taking the cash boxes.  The Nissan X-Trail jeep bearing false plates was recovered in Howth View Park.  The correct registration for this vehicle is 06D37701, it was stolen during a burglary in Blanchardstown on the 10th December 2011.  A witness recalls seeing a silver transit sized van with roof bars on Clonrosse Drive, a short time after this he discovered an ink cartridge under a parked car.

The Gardaí at Mountjoy Garda Station are investigating a robbery from the person and an unlawful seizure of a vehicle that occurred on Tuesday, the 2nd October 2012 at Temple Street, Dublin 1.

Between 9pm and 9.15pm a woman was parking her car, a red Mercedes Benz, registration number 08 D 72887, on Temple Street.  Once parked the woman got out of her car and went to the boot to get something from it.  As she was closing the boot, a male approached her from across the road and immediately threatened her.  The woman was pushed to the ground and the man grabbed her handbag and car keys from her.  He immediately got into her car and drove at speed in the direction of Great Denmark Street.

This man is described as being in his late twenties or early thirties, five foot six inches in height and spoke with a Dublin accent.

In some regions it is reported to have reached alarming proportions. When the price of scrap metal rises, so too does the theft of scrap metal.

It is believed that this increase in the price of metal is a direct result of the rapid industrial development in countries like India and China. The metals most commonly stolen are copper, aluminium, brass and bronze and with the approximate market value of one tonne of aluminium estimated at €1,750 it can be a very lucrative business. Metal thieves target our manholes, churches, public buildings, telecommunication cables, homes and electricity substations. These thefts are putting communities in danger. There were 2,650 reported incidents in 2011.

This ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ campaign will primarily focus on:

* Crime Prevention/Reduction of Burglary

* Road Safety

* Supporting Victims of Crime

* Age Card Awareness

The campaign will see many local initiatives such as Garda station open days or Garda information clinics, as well as larger national events all aimed at improving community safety.  Sergeant Courtney offered some simple crime prevention advice that can help reduce the number of burglaries.

The Gardaí at Ballyshannon Garda Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal hit and run traffic collision that occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday, the 29th September 2012 on the main N15 Donegal Road at Parkhill.

Numerous vehicle parts were recovered from the scene at the time of this collision.  It has been established from investigations that these vehicle parts belong to a Volkswagan Passat car manufactured between 2001 to 2005.

Eunin McDevitt was struck by a car on this road and fatally wounded.  He was forty seven years old.

Superintendent Leo McGinn and Eunan’s wife were in studio to appeal for the driver of this car to come forward.

The Gardaí at Carrickmacross Garda Station are investigating the disappearance of thirty seven year old Padraig Campbell who is missing since Sunday the 18th March 2012.  Padraig was last seen Colloville, Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan at 7pm.  He was wearing a grey t-shirt, black body warmer jacket and blue jeans. He drives a navy blue Toyota Avensis registration number HX53EKU.

On Thursday, the 2nd June 2011 he left his home in Boherlahan near Cashel and travelled to Fawnagowan, Bansha Road, Tipperary to stay with his girlfriend.  At approximately 6.30am on Friday morning Bobby left Fawnagowan to return home to Boherlahan to get ready for work at Killough Quarry near Thurles, Co. Tipperary.  He failed to turn up for work and colleagues contacted his son and daughter.  His son noticed his work clothes and boots were still at home.

At 2.30pm Bobby’s silver coloured Citroen van was discovered parked at a car park at Kilshane Woods, Bansha, Tipperary, which is an amenity area for walkers using the local woodlands.  A man matching his description was seen walking along a country road at Cordangan, Tipperary Town at approximately 8.50am on Friday, the 3rd June, the morning he went missing.

Bobby Ryan's family are concerned for his safety as he has not contacted family or friends since Friday morning, the 3rd June 2011.

Bobby Ryan is 52 years of age.  He is described as 14st, 5'2", bald with hazel eyes.  When last seen he wearing a navy polo t-shirt, navy tracksuit bottoms, navy jumper and white runners.  He was well known in the area, he drove a truck for a local quarry and worked as a DJ in the area, known as Mr Moonlight

Bobby Ryan's family are very concerned for his safety as he has not contacted family or friends since Friday morning, the 3rd June  2011.

Appeal:

• Anyone who was in the area on Friday morning the 3rd June and may have seen Bobby’s van around Tipperary Town or Fawnagowan area.

• Anyone who was in the Annacarty & Dundrum Road area who may have seen Bobby’s van in the area.

• Any person who was walking in Bansha woods who may have seen Bobby to come forward.

• It was the June Bank Holiday weekend, Gardaí appeal to anyone who was in the Tipperary Town area for the weekend and may have seen Bobby.

• Anyone who saw Bobby on the Thursday night the 2nd of June travelling from Boherlahann to Fawnagowan to come forward.

• A witness in the woods recalls seeing a maroon saloon car at 8.10am on the morning Bobby went missing at the same time as he saw a van similar to Bobby’s Citroen van. Gardaí appeal to the driver of that maroon car to come forward.

Denis Walsh lived at Caherdavin area of Limerick beyond Thomand Park.  On Saturday the 9th March 1996, he left his house to go into town and never returned. Denis would usually take the 302 bus into town and walk around for a few hours.  If he walked in, he would take the Shelbourne Road, Ennis Road, crossing at Sarsfield Bridge.

On the 13th May 1996, an appeal was made on Crimeline.  A call came in from a security manager working at the Seacat Ferry in Belfast.  He had seen the photograph of Denis on the programme, and thought he recognised him, as a man who had spent a day waiting for a ferry to the Isle of Man. 

When the security manager checked the next day, a ticket in the name of ‘Walsh’ had been cashed in, unused.

An age progression photograph was developed of what Denis he might look like now and circulated nationwide.

The Gardaí at Birr Garda Station are appealing for information in relation to the disappearance of thirty two year old Michal Wisniewski who is missing since the 23rd March 2012.

Michal originally from Poland, was last seen on Newbridge Street, Birr Town at approximately 2.15pm on Friday, the 23rd March walking towards his home at Riverside Apartments, Birr, Co. Offaly.

Michal is five foot ten inches in height of slim build, with short dark hair, he was captured on CCTV at a post office in the town on the day he went missing.

• Gardaí are appealing to Michal, if he is still resident in Ireland to make contact with Birr Garda station or any Garda Station. 

• Gardaí are appealing to members of the Public who may recognise Michal as someone living in there area or frequenting premises they might be employed in, to make contact.  

• Gardaí are also to appealing to Bus and Lorry drivers, Taxi’s or Hackney’s who may have carried Michal about late March, early April 2012, in the Birr area, or any part of the country.

• Any member of the Polish Community in Birr, who may have information, no matter how insignificant they might think it is, to come forward to Gardaí.

The Gardaí at Whitehall Garda Station are appealing for the assistance of the public in locating missing person Paul Bunbury.

Paul is 19 years old and is a 3rd year student in DCU studying computer applications.  He resided on campus.  Paul was last seen by another student leaving DCU via the Ballymun Gates on the Thursday the 2nd February 2012 at 4.30pm.  Paul was sighted at Dublin Port at 6.30pm that evening and has not been seen since.  There has been no activity on Pauls Laptop, mobile phone or bank account.  This is completely out of character for Paul and his family are deeply distraught by his disappearance.

At 9.30pm on Thursday, the 9th February 2012 Andrew Allen was in his house at Links View Park with his partner, they were in a downstairs room at the front of the house.  His partner heard a noise outside and looked out the window, she saw a gunman standing at the door.  Shots were fired in through the window hitting Andrew and fatally wounding him.  The gunmen made their getaway in a silver Vauxhall Cavalier registration number SJI2117.  This car was subsequently recovered burnt out on Church Brae Road in Fahan, 1km off the main Bridgend to Derry Road.

Appeal:

• Anyone who was in the Links View Park area and may have seen suspicious activity before or after the incident between the Fahan area and Derry to come forward.

• The Silver Vauxhall Cavalier was sold on the 9th January and registered in a false name and address, did you see this car in Derry or Buncrana during these four weeks?

At approximately 8.50pm Dean Johnston was sitting in the back of a red Volkswagen golf registration number 96 D 7503 on Moorefield Avenue just yards from his home.  A lone gunman approached the car and fired shots in through the rear passenger window hitting Dean and killing him.  Dean was just 20 years old and was a fitness fanatic.  He was hoping to become a fitness instructor. 

The investigation is on-going and several arrests have been made, however Gardaí are still seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation.
 

The Gardaí at Kevin Street Garda Station are appealing for information in relation to the murder of Declan O’Reilly that occurred on Monday, the 24th September 2012.

Declan O’Reilly was shot and fatally wounded on the South Circular Road in front of his twelve year old son.

The gunmen left the scene in a silver BMW 320 Coupe, which was recovered burnt out on Cow Parlour in the tenters area of Dublin 8 a short time later.

CCTV from the surrounding areas captured the last movements of Declan prior to his death and Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area at this time and may have information about this brutal murder to come forward.

The Gardaí at Gurranabraher Garda Station are re-appealing for information in relation to the murder of seventy three year old Gus Hornibrook who was found dead in his home on the 6th November 2007.

His last movements were captured on CCTV footage throughout the area, where he was going about his business in the local post office and shop.  These were the last sightings of Gus before he was attacked in his home hours later.

Gus was a quiet and reclusive man and was well known and liked in the Gurranabraher area of Cork City.

James was fifty eight years old and originally from Killorglin town.  He moved five kilometres to Beaufort in later years.  James was well liked and a popular individual.  James worked in a company in the town for twenty years and socialised in the town regularly.  On Wednesday, the 18th April James left his place of work in the town and went to two local public houses.

 
A short time before midnight he got a taxi home from Clifford’s Pub.  The taxi driver waited until he got safely inside his house.  This was the last time James was seen alive.

At 2am the fire was discovered by a neighbour who alerted the emergency services.  A post mortem revealed that James died as a result of blunt force trauma and smoke inhalation.

Appeal:

• Anyone who was in the Killorglin town area on Wednesday the 18th April

(Chelsea were playing Barcelona in the Champions League) who may have information to assist the investigation.

• Shortly after 1am two people out hunting foxes stopped briefly outside James’s house but noted nothing suspicious, one hour later the house was on fire.

• Gardaí would like to acknowledge the support and assistance received from the local community but appeal for anyone within the community with information to come forward.

Jim’s body was found in his home at Kilcoman, Ardagh, by a neighbour on the morning of Friday the 23rd of October 2009. There was no sign of forced entry at Jim’s home, however the front door was open and a sum of money was missing from the house.

Jim was a defenceless man who lived a simple life, he occasionally socialised at a local public house in Newcastle West, and placed the odd bet in a local bookies. Jim was recorded on CCTV in Ladbrooks just a week before his death. While in Newcastle West Jim would visit a bank to lodge his pension into his account.

The last sighting of Jim was on Thursday the 22nd of October 2012 around midday filling the kettle from a barrel of water outside his house.

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone within the community that may have information that may assist with this investigation to come forward.

Just after 10pm on Thursday the 18th January, sixty year old Michael was at home with his partner at Tymonville Road, Tallaght.  A knock came to the front door and was answered by Michael’s partner, two males pushed passed her entering the house and assaulted Michael fatally wounding him. The two males fled the scene on foot.

Earlier in the day Michael went to B&Q to buy supplies as he was a painter and decorator. Michael was a hard working man and was not involved in any kind of criminal activity. He had been working on his family home in Co. Leitrim with his brother and planned to retire there eventually.

His family appeal for information on this brutal attack five years on.

Gardaí at Kilkenny Garda Station are re-appealing for information in relation to the murder of seventy nine year old Nancy Smyth in 1987.

Nancy’s body was discovered after a fire in her home on Wolfe Tone Street, Kilkenny in the early hours of the 11th September 1987.  The post mortem revealed that Nancy had been murdered before the fire broke out.

Nancy was dropped home by the owner of the Kilkenny House public house, were she had spent the evening socialising.  At 1am a man was seen standing at the front door of the house arguing with Nancy.  Shortly after 5am the alarm was raised when a passer-by saw smoke coming from Nancy’s house.

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who has information that may assist them in their investigation to come forward.

• If you made a statement to Gardaí in 1987 and have any new information or information that you forgot to include, to contact them now.

Gardaí at Shannon Garda Station are appealing for information in relation to the murder of Robert Sheehan that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, the 2nd September 2012. 

At approximately 3.45am twenty one year old Robert Sheehan was shot and fatally wounded outside the Bunratty Castle Hotel in County Clare.  Robert was attending his older brother’s wedding when two men dressed in dark clothing, drove into the car park and shot him several times.

The gunmen left in a large dark coloured car towards the Shannon / Clonmoney areas.

The following day, Monday,  the 3rd September, Robert Sheehan died at the Midwestern Regional Hospital in Limerick.

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone in the vicinity of the Bunratty area between 6pm on Saturday, the 1st September and 3.45am on Sunday, the 2nd September to come forward.

• A large dark coloured car was used by the gunmen, this car exited the car park in a westerly direction towards Shannon /Clonmoney.

• A Crime stoppers reward exists for information critical to the investigation.

• Any delivery vans or employees of various outlets that were open for business in the early hours of Sunday morning should come forward with any information they may have.

• Information on those responsible for this murder or any other information that may assist the investigation.

On Sunday evening, the 21st March 2010 Seamus McMahon was visiting a friend’s house at Bothar Chroinn, Saltown in Dundalk.  Two men entered the house through an unlocked front door and shot Seamus.  They ran to Bellewsbridge Road where a getaway car was waiting for them and drove in the direction of Toberona / Fatima area. Seamus McMahon was pronounced dead a short time later.

The investigation is at an advance stage and there have been arrests made.  Seamus sister was in studio and made a family appeal for anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Sean was out socialising with his partner at the Round House Pub, High Street, Limerick, celebrating New Year’s Eve. They left the pub just after 11pm and headed home. Sean’s partner set a fire in the living room while Sean made some food in the kitchen. As they were settling in for the night, the doorbell rang. Sean went to answer the door thinking it was neighbours calling to wish them a Happy New Year.

As Sean opened the front door, four masked and armed raiders rushed through the door. Two of the raiders ran towards the living room and grabbed Sean’s partner. They ordered her to kneel on the floor and told her to put her hands behind her back. The raiders demanded to know where the money was.

She heard a shot coming from the hallway, the raiders tied her hands together with a cable from the television. They stole a sum of money from her handbag and fled from the house.

Sean’s partner discovered him in the hallway, with a gunshot wound to his stomach, he was not breathing.

The Gardaí at Clonmel Garda Station are appealing for information in relation to the murder of 29 year old Shane Rossiter who was shot dead on Tuesday morning, the 17th October 2012.

At approximately 6.30am Gardaí found Shane lying in the doorway of a house in Church Lane, Golden, Clonmel.  He had been shot and was immediately removed to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
 

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing for anyone who noticed or heard anything suspicious in the vicinity of Main Street/Church Lane in Golden Village between the hours of 0400hrs and 0700hrs on Wednesday, the 17th October 2012. 

• Did anyone in the area between these times notice a large black four door saloon type car?

• On Wednesday evening, the 17th October 2012 a dark saloon type car was reported burnt out in an area known as the Nire Valley, Clonmel.  Did anyone in that area, see anything suspicious or the car being parked.

• Did anyone see a large black four door saloon type car between Golden Village/Clonmel/Nire Valley on the 17th October 2012?

A five year old boy was at home on Sycamore Drive getting ready for school, he was preparing to cycle as part of a local cycle to school initiative in the community. He was in the front garden putting on his helmet when he saw an unusual item in the garden. The young boy picked up the item and it exploded in his hand causing extensive injuries to him. The boy was rushed to the doctors where he was transferred by ambulance to Crumlin’s Children’s Hospital where he received medical attention.

The viable device was callously left in the front garden of a family home. The young school boy received horrific injuries, his mother Kelly Anne will be in studio to discuss the effect of this incident on her son and her family.

The Gardaí at Swinford Garda Station are re-appealing for information on the murder of Edward (Eddie) Fitzmaurice, Bellaghy, Charlestown, Co.Mayo.

At 6.45pm on the 6th May 1998 Eddie’s body was found in a bedroom of his home.  It was established that sometime between 8.20pm on Friday, the 1st May 1998 and Saturday morning the 2nd May 1998 Eddie was attacked in his home.  He was assaulted, tied up, gagged and left to die over a period of five days.

The Garda investigation into the murder of Eddie Fitzmaurice has been co-ordinated from Charlestown and Swinford Garda Stations.  Despite exhaustive efforts to identify the culprits, nobody has been charged to date with this crime.

The murder investigation has remained ongoing for the past fourteen years. During this period of time it has been reviewed on an ongoing basis.  This was a particularly callous and brutal attack.  Eddie Fitzmaurice was 83 years old and lived alone.  He ran his own drapery shop for many years.  Eddie was a popular member of the community, who went about his day to day business, in a quiet gentle manner.

Fourteen years on An Garda Síochána are continuing to appeal for the public’s help.

Appeal:

• It is the belief of the investigation team that there are still persons who have information pertaining to this brutal crime. Gardaí are now appealing to them to come forward and tell the Gardaí what they know. This information may provide the key to solving this murder.

• Gardaí appeal to people with information who may have been under duress at the time of this brutal murder and did not come forward. However all these years later their circumstances may have changes and we would urge anyone with information to come forward.

• Crimestoppers have offered a reward for information leading to the identification and prosecution of the perpetrators. This was a particularly callous and brutal attack on a defenceless elderly man. Anyone with information no matter how insignificant they feel it may be to come forward.
 

Gerard is missing from his home at Cornaveagh, Bailieboro, Co. Cavan, since Sunday the 26th June 2011. He is formerly from Knockmore Grove in Tallaght and moved to the Bailieboro area in recent years.

Gerard’s partner and her children were staying with him the weekend of his disappearance. She left at 6pm on Sunday the 26th of June 2011 and returned to her own home. On Monday the 27th of June Gerard’s partner attempted to contact him by phone. She then contacted a friend who called to Gerard’s home and discovered the house vacant with no sign of Gerard.

Gerard’s partner was the last person to see him on Sunday evening, his routine would have included tending to his dogs which he kept at the house, one of the dogs was running loose and they had not been fed. The iron gates leading to the house were left open and the keys to the house were gone. Gerard’s wallet was still in his house and he did not collect his social welfare payment the following Tuesday the 28th.

Gerard’s sister Belinda has appealed for information, together with Superintendent Gerard O’Brien who is leading the investigation.

The Gardaí at Sligo Garda Station are investigating three separate robberies from service stations in the county, over the course of a three month period.

On the 16th February 2012 at approximately 9.15pm at the Regional Stores garage in Ballinode, two males dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclava’s entered the shop.  One of the raiders was tall and was armed with a hammer, the second raider was armed with what appeared to be a gun and pointed it at a member of staff and demanded money.  The raiders retreated and left empty handed.  They made their getaway in a dark coloured Honda Accord, registration number 98SO2824. This car was recovered on fire at Fermoyle, Calry.  This car was sold, legitimately, to persons using false names and addresses.

The second raid occurred at Collins Filling Station in Rathcormack on Monday, the 27th February.  At approximately 8.55pm two masked and armed men entered the petrol pump attendant’s hut on the garage forecourt.  One of the raiders was armed with what appeared to be a handgun.  They threatened the member of staff and demanded money, they fled the scene with a small amount of cash.  They made their getaway in a silver Opel Omega car, registration number 01MO5341 which was subsequently recovered burnt out near Glencar Waterfall.  It transpired that this car was also purchased a few days before this incident by persons using a false name and address.

The third raid occurred at Parkes Garage in Ballisodare on Friday, the 16th March 2012 at approximately 9.05pm.  A member of staff was working on the forecourt of the garage when a white Honda Civic, registration number 91D30985 pulled up and a male got out of the passenger carrying what appeared to be a sawn off shotgun.  He entered the shop and demanded money.  The raider pointed the gun at a member of staff who handed over a sum of money.  The raiders fled the scene at speed.  The vehicle was recovered at 12.30am at Dromiskoble, an attempt had been made to burn this vehicle.

The Gardaí at Ennis Garda Station are investigating a Robbery from a bookmakers on Turnpike, Ennis, Co. Clare on Saturday, the 28th April 2012.

Shortly after 7.30pm two masked and armed raiders entered the bookmakers.  The first male made his way towards the counter armed with a knife.  He threatened a member of staff and jumped over the counter.  He told the staff member to open the safe.  He removed a quantity of cash from the safe, however, a different section of the safe was on time lock.  He placed the money into a black bag.  The second male remained at the door.  He was armed with a sawn off shotgun.  The two males fled the scene and made their getaway in a silver Audi A5 the bearing registration number 09 D 24105. These plates were cloned from another Audi car. The correct registration number of the vehicle is 09 D 4472, this vehicle was stolen during the course of a burglary in Blanchardstown on Tuesday the 13th of March 2012.  The key was found close to where the vehicle was abandoned in Glen Gardens in Ennis.  Both men spoke with Dublin Accents.

The Gardaí at Tallaght Garda Station are investigating a sexual assault of a twenty five year old woman that occurred in the early hours of Sunday the 14th October 2012.

The woman had been at a party with close friends nearby.  She changed into warm outdoor clothes for the walk home and left the party with a friend.  They walked together to some nearby shops and said goodnight, the woman continued on alone for her short walk home up the Cookstown Road.  It was approximately 4.40am.  As she was walking along she noticed a man standing near the bus stop, so she crossed the road to avoid him.

The man called out to the woman and asked for a cigarette, she told him she didn’t have any and kept on walking.  The man than ran across the road and grabbed the woman, he punched her in the face three times knocking her to the ground.  He kicked her in the head and pressed a sharp implement to her neck.

He forced her to remove some clothing while on the side of the road and forced her across the road into the grounds of an apartment block.  He brought her over to a grassy area covered with trees and shrubbery, where he viciously attacked her.  The attack lasted over an hour.  The attacker was extremely violent throughout, and kept the sharp implement pressed against her neck at all times.

Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone who has information that may assist them in their investigation to come forward.

The woman provided a detailed witness statement to investigating Gardaí which was vital to their investigation at the time. They recovered several items at the scene belonging to the victim and a possible suspect, however the real breakthrough came however the following day when a council worker in a local cemetery found a pair of jeans and a jumper, placed on the side of a skip. The council worker was aware of the sexual assault that had occurred the previous night and immediately contacted the Gardaí.

The items seized at the scene of the assault and the clothing found in the cemetery were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for DNA Analysis. A DNA Profile was created for a possible suspect from the samples obtained on the clothing found in the cemetery and this profile was generated through Interpol to the UK DNA Database. A positive match was found for a male who had been arrested in the UK for a minor road traffic matter. This male was known to the Gardaí in Galway, extensive investigations followed and he was subsequently arrested on the 30th December 2004 in Portlaoise. He pleaded guilty to Aggravated Sexual Assault and was sentenced to eleven years in prison.

We highlight the investigation techniques used by the investigating Gardaí in this case and highlight the work of the Forensic Science Laboratory.

Gardaí at the Stolen Motor Vehicle Unit, National Bureau of Criminal Investigation wish to warn members of the public of the dangers of selling motor vehicles privately. 

A FRAUDSTER is targeting individual sellers and buying their cars using counterfeit bank drafts.  The vehicle is then immediately sold for cash, to innocent purchasers. The FRAUDSTER has posted adverts on the internet seeking ‘drivers’.  The ‘drivers’  are instructed to collect the bogus ‘bank drafts’ (unaware of their status) at Hotel reception desks and go to the seller and buy his/her vehicle – paying by bank draft.  

Other ‘drivers’ are instructed to collect the vehicles in Hotel car parks (the keys having been left at reception) and bring the vehicles to innocent purchasers who will have seen an advert on a car trading website advertising the said vehicle for sale.  This purchaser will be instructed to pay cash for the vehicle. The ‘driver’ will collect the cash and then be instructed to bring it to a Hotel where it will be picked up by a 3rd party.

Gardaí wish to warn members of the public against the dangers of this scam and offer advice to legitimate buyers and sellers of cars.

Burglary prevention is one of the main themes of the campaign, as well as focusing on Victim Support and Road Traffic Education.

Our efforts during the campaign will be focused on raising awareness amongst the public of effective crime prevention and community engagement advice in order to tackle incidences of burglary.

In 2011 there were 27,439 recorded burglaries and related offences within the state.

Many have the following characteristics;

• 1 in 4 burglaries are committed by thieves entering through an unsecured door or window. This figure rises in the summer to almost 1 in 3.

• Many burglaries 60% or more occur post noon. Late school runs and shopping trips are times of note.

An Garda Síochána will use all resources available to it to target these burglars. Operations around the country have already seen several arrests. An Garda Síochána encourages all home owners to partake in community alert or neighbourhood watch schemes to help combat the burglar.

Maeve Ryan of the Crime Victims Helpline was in studio with Sergeant Kelvin Courtney and discussed the services available to victims of crime.

On Saturday the 3rd March 2012 between 10.30am and 12.30pm a relic containing the heart of St. Laurence O’Toole was removed from St. Laude’s Chapel in Christchurch Cathedral.  The relic was kept in a wooden heart shaped container, sealed within a small wrought iron barred box.  The heart is suspended from a wall by an iron chain and is kept within the iron box.

The culprit gained access to the relic by using a bolt cutters and similar device to cut the chain and cut through the iron cage.

On Monday the 30th January 2012 between 10.30am and 4pm a casket was removed from the marble alter at St.Bridget’s Church in Killester, Dublin 5.

The casket had only recently been cleaned and St. Bridget’s relic was removed from inside it as a precaution.  At 12.30pm a male was captured on CCTV entering the church.  He was observed leaving a short time later carrying a plastic bag.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

This month’s traffic segment focused on An Garda Síochána working in tandem with multi agencies conducting a TISPOL Checkpoint.

On Thursday, the 2nd June 2011 he left his home in Boherlahan near Cashel and travelled to Fawnagowan, Bansha Road, Tipperary to stay with his girlfriend.  At approximately 6.30am on Friday morning Bobby left Fawnagowan to return home to Boherlahan to get ready for work at Killough Quarry near Thurles, Co. Tipperary.  He failed to turn up for work and colleagues contacted his son and daughter.  His son noticed his work clothes and boots were still at home.

At 2.30pm Bobby’s silver coloured Citroen van was discovered parked at a car park at Kilshane Woods, Bansha, Tipperary, which is an amenity area for walkers using the local woodlands. A man matching his description was seen walking along a country road at Cordangan, Tipperary Town at approximately 8.50am on Friday 3rd June, the morning he went missing.

The Gardaí at Swords Garda Station are looking for information on the whereabouts of Damian Gordon, (Dob) 17/10/1972. He has previously resided in Roscommon.

He failed to appear at the Circuit Court for sentencing in relation to a charge under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
