Traffic Management Plan Christmas Racing Festival Limerick

The following is the Garda Traffic Management Plan to cater for the Christmas Racing Festival 26th- 29th December 2023 at Limerick Racecourse, Greenmount Park, Patrickswell, Co. Limerick.

A large crowd is expected to attend the racing festival each day, which may cause traffic disruption on the M21 at Exit 4 both northbound and southbound plus on the L1407 Crecora Road and on the R526 Patrickswell Road. To maximise everyone’s enjoyment of the day Garda advice to patrons is to arrive in plenty of time, to park cars legally, i.e. not causing obstruction, not parking on green areas or at locations where parking is prohibited. Cars illegally parked will be ticketed and those causing obstruction are likely to be towed away by Gardaí.

Closures/Diversions:

Traffic management will apply from 10.30am onwards at the following locations by An Garda Síochana:

  • Exit 4 Northbound & Southbound off M20 motorway (Patrickswell exit)
  • R526 Patrickswell Road
  • L1407 Crecora Road

Patrons travelling southbound from Limerick City may consider using Exit 3, M20 (Raheen) and travel to the racecourse via R526.

Patrons travelling northbound from Cork and Kerry may consider using Exit 5, M20 (Patrickswell) and travel to the racecourse via Patrickswell Village.

If you are driving to the races the Gardaí would appeal to patrons to keep to the speed limits, never “Drink & Drive”, “Text & Drive” or “Phone & Drive”

Parking:

Patrons are again advised to travel early and using the carparks provided at the racecourse.

The area around the racecourse will remain clear of vehicles to allow for patrons who are travelling on foot from Patrickswell Village.

Crime Prevention Advice

An Garda Síochána would like all patrons travelling to the Racing Festival to have a safe trip so the here are a few tips for those travelling

  • Don’t leave any valuables in your vehicle and if you must, keep them out of view. This should be done before you get to your destination.
  • There are likely to be large crowds attending so parents should exercise caution and be aware of their child’s whereabouts at all times.

Do not park illegally - your actions may have consequences for Emergency Vehicle Access or cause damage to the local amenity
