Rally of the Lakes 2019

On Friday the 3rd May 2019 the International Rally of the Lakes will commence in Killarney and continues until Sunday the 5th May 2019. This event is incorporated into the May Bank Holiday Weekend Festivities and has proved to be an exceptionally busy weekend for the town of Killarney and the surrounding area.

Road Closures

Speaking at Killarney Garda Station on the 1st May 2019 Sergeant Dermot O'Connell said "This is the 40th year of the Rally of the Lakes, we wish the organisers well with their event and celebrations. The Rally has achieved success and positive recognition over the past forty years for its legendary stages of Molls Gap and Healy Pass. For An Garda Síochána it is a significant policing operation. The massive influx of rally supporters, competitors and regular holiday weekenders to the Killarney area is estimated to be in the regions of 60,000 visitors. The weekend of festivities is there to be enjoyed by the whole family and that is exactly what we want to see, people enjoying themselves'.

'This year’s Policing Operation has built on the success of recent years; it sets out the plan of action to deal effectively with all of the policing needs that have been identified following consultation with the many stakeholders. There will be numerous checkpoints set up over the weekend as well as increased high visibility patrols in the Killarney area. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. If you intend on having a drink, park up the car for the evening and remember that they may still be over the limit the morning after a night out.’
