Gran Fondo 2024 Traffic Management Plan

The Gran Fondo World Series is coming to Ireland for the first time ever. The global event that is for cyclists of all abilities will be coming to Sligo on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June 2024. This is set to be one of Europe's top Gran Fondo events, attracting cyclists from all over the world.

As a result, extensive road closures will be in place to facilitate the running of the event, as follows:

Saturday 29th June 2024.

Time Trial.

Road closure will commence at 7am until 3pm.

Route – L3700, Old Dublin Road, Between Collooney and Castlebaldwin, Co. Sligo

Sunday 30th June 2024.

Gran Fondo – Medium Fondo – Sportive.

Road closures will commence at 7am until 6pm, as follows:

  • Wine St, Sligo:                 Event crossing the Inner Relief Road towards Strandhill
  • Strandhill:                        Keeping left in the direction of Ransboro
  • Ransboro Roundabout    Taking a right turn towards Ballisodare
  • Ballindrihid Bridge           Enter Ballisodare Village via Union Walk onwards to Collooney
  • Collooney                        Turning right towards Coolaney
  • Coolaney                         Through the village, keeping left towards the N17.
  • N17                                 Cross N.17 at Templehouse towards Ballymote
  • At five crossroads, turn left towards Ballymote
  • Ballymote                        Turn right at Station Rd./Teeling St. towards to Drumfin
  • Drumfin                           Turn towards Riverstown
  • Riverstown                       Proceed towards Coola
  • Coola                               Proceed to Carraroe via Ballygalway
  • Carraroe                           Travel along Pearse, Cemetery Rd., finishing at Cleveragh (opposite Sports Complex)

A one-way system will operate along the Pearse Road, Sligo in a southerly direction from the junction of Cemetery road to the roundabout at Carraroe.

An Garda Síochána are asking all road users to take note of all road closures and traffic information signage regarding the event, and to follow all directions of An Garda Síochána and marshals along the route.
