Vacancy for Head of Internal Communications in the Office of Corporate Communications in Dublin (19/10/18)

The Office of Corporate Communications is the "public face‟ of An Garda Síochána and represents the Garda Commissioner. It plays a critical role in enhancing the reputation of An Garda Síochána by keeping external and internal audiences informed of Garda activity to protect and support communities.

The Office is a highly dynamic environment operating across a range of media channels and a diverse range of operational policing and organisational initiatives.

The Office of Corporate Communications is being given responsibility for communicating internally to the Garda organisation of approximately 16,000 people including Gardaí, support staff and Garda Reserves. This figure will grow to 21,000 by 2021. The organisation has a highly dispersed workforce across the country.

The Scope and Responsibilities of the Role

To improve internal communications to this workforce, an Internal Communications Unit is being established as part of the Garda Office of Corporate Communications.

Improving the communications capacity is a key enabler to ensure effective policy implementation and strong internal and public understanding of the work being carried out by the Organisation.

Internal Communications

To improve internal communications, an Internal Communications Unit is being established as part of the Garda Office of Corporate Communications. A position currently exists for: Head of Internal Communications.

Reporting directly to the Director of Communications, the person appointed will be responsible for establishing the Internal Communications Unit. As part of this, they will be responsible for the development and implementation of an internal communications strategy for the organisation across multiple potential channels, such as the Garda Portal and Newsbeat, to include new and innovative ways to communicate with the staff of An Garda Síochána.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and utilising engaging and effective content that is in line with the organisation's communications strategy and its key messages. They will also be responsible for developing the small team working with them.
