Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) for the sharing of Next of Kin Data between the Department of Foreign Affairs and An Garda Síochána

An Garda Síochána has entered into a Data Sharing Agreement with the Department of Foreign Affairs under the Data Sharing and Governance Act 2019 for the purpose of notifying the Next of Kin of an Irish Citizen who is deceased or seriously injured overseas.

This Data Sharing Agreement covers sharing of personal data, in limited circumstances, by the Department of Foreign Affairs with An Garda Síochána for this purpose. This data is shared with An Garda Síochána so that it may confirm, and subsequently notify, the Next of Kin of the deceased or seriously injured person as to the particular condition of the individual overseas.

Public Consultation on the draft agreement was held for a period of 28 days from 29/09/2022 to 27/10/2022.  This consultation is now closed.

This agreement has been updated following the consultation period to address feedback from the Data Governance Board.
