Career Highlights:

Assistant Commissioner Jonathan Roberts served in the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) and Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) for 25 years before joining An Garda Síochána.

He spent 15 years in serious crime investigation including the investigation of murder, terrorism, kidnap and sexual crime. He is an accredited Senior Investigating Officer and has led the investigations into several high profile murders. Between 2013 and 2015 he was the Head of Belfast based Major Investigation Teams and has also been the PSNI lead for Kidnap, Cyber Crime and Rape.

In March 2016 he was appointed as Superintendent for Performance, Assurance and Justice in Belfast District. In January 2017 he was promoted to Chief Superintendent and appointed as Head of the PSNI College.

In October 2017 he was appointed as District Commander for Belfast where he led over 1000 staff and managed complex community policing issues and critical incidents across the city. During this period he was also the PSNI lead for Business Crime.

In August 2020 he was appointed as T/Assistant Chief Constable, Operational Support Department. In this role he was a member of the PSNI Executive team and the PSNI lead for Firearms, Public Order, Roads Policing, Legacy matters, Scientific Support, Policy, Corporate Information, Data Protection, Records Management and performed the function of Senior Information Risk Owner.

He is an accredited Strategic Firearms Commander and Public Order Gold Commander.

In June 2019 he was awarded the Queen’s Policing Medal (QPM).
