Career Highlights:

Assistant Commissioner Cleary is from Dublin and joined An Garda Síochána in 1993. He has served in a variety of different operational policing roles throughout his service.

In the early part of his career he served at Fitzgibbon Street and the North Central Divisional Drugs Unit at Store Street and as a detective in Store Street and the Special Detective Unit.

He served as a Sergeant in Kevin Street and also in the DMR Source Management Unit (Chis). He has led a number of high profile complex investigations as a Detective Inspector in Kevin Street and a Detective Superintendent in West Dublin. He was the regional Detective Superintendent for Dublin responsible for specialist units, and the Chief Superintendent in charge of the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau. He was appointed Detective Chief Superintendent in charge of the Garda National Technical Bureau, Operational Support Services and led the nationwide expansion of the Garda National Cybercrime Bureau.

Assistant Commissioner Cleary has completed the Strategic Command Course for senior Police leaders in Ryton UK. He has a Master of Arts in Serious Crime Investigation from University of Limerick and a Batchelor of Arts (honours) in Public Management from NUI.
