Background:
Sean (John) Masterson, born on 2nd September, 1941, came from Streamstown, Co. Westmeath. He served in the F.C.A. from 1957 to 1961 and joined An Garda Síochána on 19th April, 1961. Garda Masterson also served at Sundrive Road and Crumlin Stations. He was married and was survived by his wife, daughters and only son, who was six weeks old when his father died. 

Circumstances:

On 26th January, 1970, Garda Masterson was on duty as an official motor cyclist.  He was involved in a road traffic collision at the Naas Road, Dublin.  He later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
