Cyril Hickey, born on 30th September, 1963, came from Newtownshandrum, Rathluirc, Co. Cork. He joined An Garda Síochána on 12th December, 1984. On completion of training he was allocated to Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station, Dublin. Garda Hickey was single.

Circumstances:

On 8th December, 1988, Garda Hickey was driving the official motor-cycle attached to Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station. At 12 noon on that date Garda Hickey while driving along the South Quays, was involved in a collision at the junction of Victoria Quay and Watling Street. Garda Hickey was removed by Ambulance to the Mater Hospital where he died from his injuries at 1.50 p.m.
