Background:
Paul Colleran, born on 25th April, 1975, came from Quarry Park, Moylough, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. He joined An Garda Síochána as a trainee on 29th October, 1996. He was previously employed as a site technician, having been awarded a Diploma in Construction Studies and a National Certificate in Civil Engineering. Garda Colleran also served at Fitzgibbon Street, Dublin and Navan.

Circumstances:

At 4.30 pm. on Wednesday, 5th March, 2003 Garda Colleran was on duty, driving his private car, returning from the District Court at Navan to his permanent station at Loughrea. At Rattin, Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath, Garda Colleran’s car was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry. Garda Colleran suffered severe head injuries from which he died on 7th March, 2003.
