Update (2): Discovery of a body of a male in New Ross, Co. Wexford – 31st December 2024

Gardaí continue to investigate the death of a 58-year-old man following an incident that occurred in New Ross, Co. Wexford on Tuesday, 31st December 2024.

Thanks for your email. A post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist earlier today and preliminary results have been provided to the investigating team. Details of these results are not being released for operational purposes.

Following the post-mortem, An Garda Síochána has now commenced a murder investigation.

A male aged in his 30s, arrested in connection with the investigation remains in Garda custody at this time. He is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region. The second individual arrested has been released from the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and is no longer being held in connection with this investigation.

An examination of the scene by the Garda Technical Bureau is continuing.

A senior investigating officer (SIO) is leading the investigation from the incident room at New Ross Garda Station. A family liaison officer (FLO) continues to provide support the family.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them and are seeking any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from those who were in the vicinity of Cluain Fada, New Ross at the time of the incident.
