Gardaí in Midleton, Co. Cork continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man (30s) following a fatal assault that occurred in Youghal, Co. Cork on Monday night, 14th April 2025.
A post-mortem examination was carried out by the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr. Margot Bolster earlier today and preliminary results have been provided to the investigation team. These details are not being released for operational reasons.
Following the post-mortem, An Garda Síochána has now commenced a murder investigation.
One male (20s) that was arrested last night remains detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Co. Cork.
A number of scenes subject to examination by the Garda Technical Bureau remain preserved at this time.
A senior investigating officer (SIO) is leading this investigation from the incident room at Midleton Garda Station. A family liaison officer (FLO) continues to provide support to the family of the deceased.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to please come forward.
