Update 1 - National Slow Down Day – 7am on Monday 2nd September 2024 to 7am on Tuesday 3rd September 2024

In the first two hours of ‘National Slow Down Day’, GoSafe checked the speeds of 9,410 vehicles, and detected *25 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Examples of high speeds include:

  • 75km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Rochestown Road Cork Cork 
  • 74km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the R661 Holycross Holycross Tipperary 
  • 66km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the R752 Ballydowling Glenealy Wicklow 
  • 72km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the Rathdown Road Greystones Wicklow 
  • 111km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N3 Lisgrea Virginia Cavan

An Garda Síochána would like to thank drivers for their compliance during the first two hours of ‘National Slow Down Day’, making Irish roads safer for all road users.   We continue to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
