Witness Appeal - Hijacking incident, Belgard Road, Clondalkin, Co. Dublin, 18th October 2024

Gardaí have arrested a man following a hijacking incident on the Belgard Road, Dublin 24, in the early hours of this morning, Friday 18th October 2024.

 

At approximately 2:45am, a man was stopped in his car at traffic lights in the Clondalkin area when he was approached by another man brandishing a knife.

 

This man entered the vehicle and forced the driver to drive to another location. The driver subsequently made his escape from the car and reported the incident to Gardaí.

 

Gardaí located the car unoccupied and the suspect, a man aged in his 30s, was arrested nearby.

 

The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in a Garda Station in West Dublin.

 

Investigations are ongoing.

 

An Garda Síochána is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

 

Any person who was travelling on the Belgard Road or the Clondalkin area this morning between 2:00am and 3:00am is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.

 

Additionally, road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
