An Garda Síochána continues a criminal investigation into all of the circumstances of the Violent Disorder and Public Order events that occurred on Monday 15th July 2024 in Coolock, Dublin 17.
Gardaí investigating these events recovered a number of incendiary devices following searches of the Moatfield Avenue and Dunree Park areas on Tuesday afternoon, 16th July 2024. Searches were conducted of grass areas in close proximity to the protest area by members from the R District Drugs Unit assisted by Coolock District Detective Unit.
Seven glass and plastic bottles of various sizes containing flammable liquid were discovered, alongside a number of empty glass bottles and rags. Plastic bottles containing a mixture of paint and oil as well as packets of water balloons were also recovered.
All of the incendiary devices and material seized has been sent for further technical examination and analysis.
Such devices risk serious harm to human life as well as criminal damage to property, as has been witnessed in recent events.
An Garda Síochána respects the right for citizens to exercise their constitutional rights; this right does not extend to breaches of criminal law, the interference with the rights of other citizens to carry out their daily activities, or to attack members of An Garda Síochána.
An incident room has been established at Coolock Garda Station and a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed.
An Garda Síochána is in the process of collating and harvesting CCTV and social media images from the events on Monday 15th July, 2024.
An Garda Síochána wishes to acknowledge the significant volume of support received from the public to date including calls to Coolock Garda Station, the Garda Confidential phone number and receipt of images and videos from members of the public.
An Garda Síochána is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed these incidents to come forward.
Any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were on the Malahide Road or surrounding areas on Monday 15th July 2024, between 9am and 8pm, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí. Anyone who may have observed incendiary devices being gathered or persons in possession of such material is asked to come forward to Gardaí.
