Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a fatal two-vehicle road traffic collision involving cars, that occurred on the R394 at Gartlandstown, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath.
The collision occurred at approximately 5.30am this morning, Wednesday 3rd July 2024.
The male passenger of the first car (aged in his 80’s) was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female driver (60’s) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore hospital for treatment for serious injuries.
The male driver of the second car (30’s) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar, for treatment for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time. The male passenger (20’s) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.
The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R394 between Mullingar and Castlepollard, Co Westmeath, between 4.45am and 5.45am this morning, Wednesday 3rd July 2024, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
