Fatal Road Traffic Collision, R331, County Mayo, Friday 5th January 2024

Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving two cars that occurred at approximately 7:45am on Friday 5th January 2024 on the R331 at Belladaff, Tagheen, near Claremorris in County Mayo.

The driver and sole occupant of one of the cars (male, 30s) was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female driver of the other car (20s) was taken to Mayo University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
 
The R331 (the Claremorris to Ballinrobe Road) is currently closed between Claremorris and Hollymount while a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators is being conducted. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R331 between Claremorris and Hollymount between 7:30am and 8am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
