Update - Discovery of a Body in Castlemaine, County Kerry – 25th February 2024

Gardaí in Tralee are continuing to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body in Castlemaine, County Kerry, on Sunday, February 25th, 2024.

Gardaí were called to a residence in the Castlemaine area on Sunday, February 25th, 2024, where the body of a man in his 80s was discovered. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry.

As part of this investigation, a man aged in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of murder by investigating Gardaí earlier today, Monday, February 26th. He is currently detained under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, at a Garda Station in County Kerry.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out this afternoon at the mortuary in University Hospital Kerry by the State Pathologist, Dr. Bolster.

The scene is preserved for technical and forensic examination. An incident room has been established at Tralee Garda Station, and a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to the case. A Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) is liaising with the family.
