In the first ten hours of National Slow Down Day, GoSafe detected 261 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Examples of high speeds include:

  • 142km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N25 Kilmakevoge Glenmore Kilkenny • 
  • 113km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R354 Lackagh Beg Turloughmore Galway • 
  • 70km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Church Street Ballinasloe Galway • 
  • 104km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the N2 Knockronaghan Emyvale Monaghan • 
  • 127km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N20 Ballymartin Blarney Cork • 127km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N25 Adamstown Kilmeaden Waterford • 
  • 99km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the N6 Baile An Phoill Gaillimh Gaillimh 
  • 73km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the N59 Lecarrow Crossmolina Mayo 
  • 121km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N21 Rineroe Adare Limerick 
  • 96km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R148 Kilmurry Enfield Meath

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
