Fatal Incident, Grand Canal, Grangeclare West, Kilmeague, Co. Kildare, Sunday 22nd December 2024.

Gardaí are appealing to witnesses to a fatal road traffic incident Grangeclare West, Kilmeague, Co. Kildare, yesterday evening, Sunday 22nd December 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 8pm when it is believed a car entered the Grand Canal at the above location.

A man, aged in his 40s, was recovered from the water and treated by crew from the National Ambulance Service.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The body of the man has been removed from the scene and a post mortem will take place.

The scene is currently held for examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and the Garda Water Unit. Access along the canal at this location is currently restricted.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Those with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam, from the area at the time are asked to provide it to investigating Gardaí.
