Update 2 - National Slow Down Day – 07:00hrs on Friday 19th April 2024 to 07:00hrs on Saturday 20th April 2024

In the first five hours of ‘National Slow Down Day’, GoSafe checked the speeds of 41,630 vehicles, and detected *81 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Examples of high speeds include:

• 112km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Main Street Charleville Cork
• 75km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the N84 Castlequarter Cloonboo Galway
• 63km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the James Larkin Road Dublin 5 Dublin
• 121km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N21 Rineroe Adare Limerick
• 60km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the R742 Parknacross Courtown Wexford
• 95km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R418 Aghanure Athy Kildare
• 95km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R772 Moyne Lower Enniscorthy Wexford

An Garda Síochána would like to thank drivers for their compliance during the first five hours of ‘National Slow Down Day’, making Irish roads safer for all road users.
 
We continue to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
