Gardaí attached to the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) conducted a search operation on the morning of Tuesday, 21st November 2023 at a residence in the West Dublin area.
The search was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation by GNBCI into the production and supply of counterfeit currency and false documentation. As part of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained pursuant to section 48 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.
During the course of the search operation, the following items were seized:
• €94,845 cash in various denominations (some of which is believed to be counterfeit)
• £600.00 sterling
• Mobile phone
Documentation suspected of being used in the production of false identities was also seized by investigating Gardaí.
The suspected counterfeit currency is subject to examination by personnel in the Document and Handwriting Section of the Garda National Technical Bureau.
No arrests have been made in relation to this investigation, at this time. Investigations are ongoing.
