Gardaí investigating the unauthorised taking of a vehicle that occurred in Monasterevin, County Kildare, on Tuesday 7th March 2023, have arrested two males as part of this investigation.
After the incident was reported to Gardaí on Wednesday 8th March 2023, Gardaí in Monasterevin commenced an investigation where it was discovered the stolen vehicle left in the direction of Portlaoise/Portarlington.
Following further enquires and assistance from Gardaí in Portarlington and Mountmellick, the stolen vehicle was recovered in Mountmellick, County Laois at 3pm on Wednesday 8th March 2023.
A man in his late teens and a male juvenile were later arrested by Gardaí and taken to Portlaoise Garda Station where they were detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. One of the youths has since been charged to appear before Tullamore District Court this morning while the second has been released to be dealt with under the Youth Diversion Scheme.
Along with the stolen vehicle, a number of items of sentimental value including a sewing machine and quilt which the owner of the vehicle had been making for a family member's wedding for a considerable period of time, were recovered.
Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
