Update 4 - National Slow Down Day, 22nd December 2023

In the first 14 hours of National Slow Down day, GoSafe checked the speed of 169,361 vehicles and detected 408 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Examples of high speeds include:

• 149km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M6 An Carn Mór Thiar Órán Mór Gaillimh
• 143km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M7 Meelick Portlaoise Laois
• 67km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Ninth Lock Road Dublin 22 Dublin
• 106km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R153 Follistown Navan Meath
• 110km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R513 Ballynamona Hospital Limerick


An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
