On 11th September 1975, 47 years ago, Garda Michael Reynolds gave the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of justice.
While off duty, Garda Reynolds came upon those responsible for an armed robbery at the Bank of Ireland in Killester. Even though he was off duty, Garda Reynolds pursued the suspects to nearby St. Anne’s Park in Raheny. While attempting to apprehend those responsible for the robbery, he was killed at close range in the line of duty.
Garda Michael Reynolds was posthumously awarded a Gold Scott Medal, An Garda Síochána’s highest award for bravery.
A memorial plaque to commemorate Garda Reynolds has been restored by the Garda Representatives Association (GRA) and the Garda Síochána Retired Members Association (GSRMA). The plaque will be unveiled at Clontarf Garda Station on Sunday, 11th September 2022 at an event hosted by the GRA and GSRMA.
The event will begin at 13:30pm with a small number of key note speakers followed by the plaque unveiling and a minute silence outside Clontarf Garda Station at approximately 14.30pm. The Garda Band will perform music at the event including the Last Post and the National Anthem.
