Renewed Appeal - Serious Road Traffic Collision, Swinford, Co. Mayo, 9th February 2022

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for information in relation to the serious road traffic collision that occurred on the N5 in Swinford, Co. Mayo, at approximately 12.25am, Wednesday 9th February 2022.

A car and a HGV truck collided on the stretch of road between Charlestown and Swinford. Two occupants of the car were seriously injured during the collision.

The male passenger aged in his late 70s, taken to Mayo University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, has since passed away.

The female passenger aged in her 50s, transferred to Beaumont Hospital, remains in critical condition.

Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any person who was travelling on the N5 between Charlestown and Swinford on Wednesday the 9th February, between midnight and 1.00am and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage, is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
