Arrest following endangerment incident Knocknacarra Co Galway June 9, 2021 - 10th June 2021

Gardaí in Galway have arrested a man in his 40s today, Thursday June 10, 2021 following an incident of endangerment in the Knocknacarra area of Galway on Wednesday June 9, 2021.

At approximately 8.30pm on Wednesday Gardaí observed a black Audi A5 car at Altan on the Western Distributor Road.

Gardaí activated blue lights and approached the car. The driver then drove at speed directly towards the marked patrol car. Gardaí had to take evasive action but the driver of the Audi rammed into the front passenger side of the marked patrol car.

The Audi car then fled at high speed out onto the Western Distributor Road. Gardaí followed in the direction of this vehicle and requested assistance. Gardaí were alerted to an abandoned vehicle in the Knocknacarra area.

Two Gardaí were injured but did not require hospitalization.

This afternoon Thursday June 10, 2021 Gardaí arrested a man in his 40s at Galway Courthouse in connection with endangerment on Wednesday June 9, 2021.

The man is currently detained at North Western Regional Headquarters in Murrough under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
