Court appearance following robbery of restaurant Drogheda January 16, 2020

A man in his mid-30s is to appear before Drogheda District Court this morning charged in connection with the robbery at a restaurant on Dyer Street, Drogheda on Saturday January 16, 2020.

The incident occurred shortly before 8pm on Saturday when a man entered the restaurant in Dyer Street and threatened staff, grabbed the till and fled the scene.

No weapon was produced during the course of the robbery.

Gardaí on beat patrol in Drogheda observed a man matching the description of the suspect running and stopped the man. He was found to be in possession of a large amount of cash.

He was arrested and brought to Drogheda Garda Station, where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was later charged in connection with robbery.

He will appear before Drogheda District Court, which is sitting in Dundalk courthouse at 10.30am this morning.
