Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving two vehicles that occurred at approximately 3:35pm on Tuesday, 7th December, 2021, on the N18 at Kiltartan in County Galway.
The driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date.
The driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle involved, a man in his 30s, was taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment of his injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening.
The road is currently closed and will be closed overnight. The services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact them. Any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
