Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred this evening Sunday 26th December, 2021 at Ballintore, Ferns Co. Wexford at approximately 5.20pm.
A two vehicle collision occurred and the male driver (early 20s) and sole occupant of the first car was fatally injured. His body has been removed from the scene to University Hospital Waterford where a post mortem will take place in due course.
The female driver (mid 50s) of the second vehicle and sole occupant of the car was seriously injured and has been removed from the scene to St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin where her condition is described as critical.
The road is currently closed and the services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested. Local diversions are in place. The road will remain closed overnight and the examination of the scene will begin tomorrow morning at first light.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
