The Garda Commissioner will host a ceremony to award deceased and serving members of An Garda Síochána with Scott Medals for bravery at the Dubhlinn Gardens, Dublin Castle, on Wednesday 25th August, 2021 at 11:00hrs.
13 Scott medals will be awarded including
• 3 Gold Medals
• 1 Silver Medal
• 9 Bronze Medals
The Scott Medal is the highest award that can be bestowed by the Commissioner of An Garda Síochána and is awarded for ‘most exceptional bravery and heroism involving the risk of life in the execution of duty’.
The ceremony will take place at the An Garda Síochána Memorial Garden, The Dubhlinn Gardens, Dublin Castle, which honours the members of An Garda Síochána who gave their lives in the service of the State.
Dublin Castle is associated with An Garda Síochána since the foundation of the State. It is the location where An Garda Síochána affirmed its authority as the National Policing Force on 9th February, 1922, thereby commencing the phasing out of the Royal Irish Constabulary which ended its policing role in August of that year.
