Update - Discharge of a Firearm During Garda Search Operation, Rochestown, Co. Cork 29th April 2021

Gardaí in Cork City continue to investigate the discharge of a firearm which occurred during a search operation conducted this evening, 29th April 2021.

As part of the investigation into ongoing criminal activity in Cork City, Gardaí attached to the Cork City Detective Unit with the support of the Armed Support Unit conducted a search of a premises at Island View, Rochestown Road, Co Cork, under the provisions of Section 29 - Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

While attempting to gain entry to the premises a shot was discharged by the occupants of the premises. The scene was secured by the Armed Support Unit and no injuries are reported.

The search of the premises resulted in the discovery of two improvised firearms and ammunition alongside and a number of petrol bombs. A number of other weapons including axes, cleavers, hatchets and pikes were also recovered from the premises.

Four men, (One aged late teens, two in their 20s and one in his 50s) and one woman (aged 50s) have been arrested in relation to this incident and are currently detained under Section 30 - Offences Against the State Act, 1939, at a number of Garda stations in Cork City.

This investigation is ongoing.
