The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Ireland from the 3rd – 5th March 2020.
On the 3rd March the visit will be concentrated in the Dublin City Centre including Aras an Uachtarain, The Garden of Remembrance, Government Buildings and the Guinness Store House.
On the 4th March the visit will include locations in Temple Bar, Prosperous Co. Kildare, Grange Co. Meath and Howth Co. Dublin.
On the 5th March the visit will include Galway City Centre and a local GAA club.
Traffic restrictions for the visit will be kept to the minimum required.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will arrive and depart at Dublin Airport. Normal operations will continue at Dublin Airport at all times.
The public can expect temporary rolling road closures, to facilitate security escorts over the course of the 3rd – 5th March 2020, in the locations above. Any impact on the public will be localised and minimal.
Tuesday 3rd March 2020:
From 2pm – 4pm (approx.) there will be localised traffic restrictions in place in the vicinity of the Garden of Remembrance including North Frederick Street, Parnell Square North, traffic will be diverted away from Parnell Square. Local traffic diversion will be in place.
From 3pm – 5pm (approx.) there will be localised traffic restrictions in place in the vicinity of Government Buildings including Merrion Street, Merrion Square West and Merrion Square South. Traffic will be diverted from St Stephens Green South at the Leeson Street junction onto Earlsfort Terrace and St Stephens Green East. Local traffic diversion will be in place.
From 6pm – 9pm (approx.) Market Street South and Bellevue, Dublin 8 will be closed to all traffic, pedestrian access to the Guinness Storehouse will be restricted to invited and vetted persons only.
Wednesday 4th March 2020:
From 6am – 11am (approx.) Essex Street East, Dublin 2 will be closed to all traffic (vehicle/ pedestrians)
The Royal visit will have limited impact in Co. Kildare. There will be temporary restrictions in place in Prosperous village from 11.30am – 12.15pm (approx.), local Gardai will have diversion routes in place.
The Royal visit will have limited impact in Co. Meath.
From 8am – 5pm Thormanby Road, Howth will have restricted access. From 3pm – 5pm Carrickbrack Road, Howth will have restricted access. Local access will be maintained and local diversion routes will be in place.
Thursday 5th March 2020:
The following restrictions will apply in Galway, No premises have been closed and the city centre remains open for business. An Garda Síochána will make every effort to minimise any disruption caused.
City Centre
From 4am - 1pm (approx.) no vehicles will be permitted access to William Street, Shop Street, Abbeygate Street, High Street and Mainguard Street.
From 4am - 1pm (approx.) no vehicles will be permitted access to Flood Street, Cross Street, Middle Street and St. Augustine Street. Parking at this location will also be restricted.
From 9am - 1pm (approx.) no vehicles will be permitted access to Bridge Street and Lombard Street however school traffic accessing St. Patricks School will be accommodated. Parking at this location will also be restricted.
From 9am - 1pm (approx.) Pedestrian Access to Shop Street, High Street and Mainguard Street will be restricted, pedestrian diversions will be in place. Members of the public wishing to access these streets during the above times will be subject to screening by Gardaí on duty.
Dr. Mannix Road, Salthill
From 9am - 2pm (approx.) Traffic restrictions will be in place on Dr. Mannix Road. Members of the public wishing to access Dr. Mannix Road during the times indicated will be subject to screening by Gardaí on duty.
VMS Signs have been positioned strategically around Galway City informing motorists of restrictions/disruption and motorists are asked to take note on the messages displayed on same.
During the Visit of the VIP’s there will be rolling road closures as the VIP’s are travelling between each location and it is envisaged that there will be some traffic disruption.

Our objective is to continue to share as much information with the public where necessary as soon as we are in a position to do so.

Gardaí have and continue to liaise with business and local residents in the key locations and will continue to communicate directly with them during the visit.
In general the public, in the areas affected, is advised to leave extra time for their journeys and to expect some localised delays.
