Second Arrest - Serious Assault, Ballyphehane, County Cork, Tuesday 7th April 2020

A second person has been arrested in connection with this incident. The man in his late teens was detained at Togher Garda Station and released without charge for a file to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in the early hours of this morning Sunday 12th April 2020.

On Friday 10th April 2020, a man in his early 20s was arrested in connection with this incident of violent disorder and detained at Togher Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
 
He has since been charged and will appear before a special sitting of Cork City District Court this morning Saturday 11th April 2020 at 11.30am. 

Gardaí are investigating the serious assault of a man in his 20s and an incident of violent disorder that occurred in Pearse Square, Ballyphehane, Co. Cork at approximately 9.30pm yesterday evening, 7th April 2020.
 
The man, who received a number of stab wounds, was taken to Cork University Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

The incident occurred after an altercation between two groups of people in Pearse Square, a number of whom were armed with what is believed to be knives and bats.

No arrests have been made. Investigation ongoing.
