Gardaí have arrested a woman and seized drugs and mobile phones which Gardaí believe were destined for prison.
As part of an ongoing operation to disrupt the supply of drugs and contraband to prisoners attending Mallow District Court, Gardaí from Mallow carried out an operation this morning April 21, 2020.
Gardaí from the Mallow District Drugs Unit, with assistance from the Mallow District Detective Unit and the Regional Dog Unit, searched a number of people in the vicinity of Mallow Court House under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
A women, aged in her 20s, was arrested after being found in possession of €500 of suspected cannabis herb. She is currently detained in Mallow Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A second woman, aged in her late teens, was found in possession of suspected cannabis, heroin and large quantity of tablets worth approximately €500. She was also found to be in possession of two mini mobile phones. No arrest was made following this search Investigations are ongoing.
Gardaí believe these items seized were destined for a prisoner in custody on remand from a prison.
All of the suspected drugs will be sent for analysis and files will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to these incidents.
