'Operation Daylight' - Four Arrested in Dublin on the 23/5/19
Four arrested by Roads Policing Units at Port Tunnel as part of 'Operation Daylight'
On Thursday 23rd May 2019, Dublin Metropolitan Region (Roads Policing) and DMR North Central Roads Policing Units carried out a checkpoint at the Dublin Port Tunnel Control Centre, as part of ‘Operation Daylight’.
‘Operation Daylight’ is a multi-agency initiative involving An Garda Síochána, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Egis Port Tunnel Operators targeting persistent offenders for driving dangerously (speeding, tailgating and deliberately evading payment of tolls) in the tunnel and on the motorway network.
During today's phase of the operation three drivers were arrested for dangerous driving, and subsequently tested at the roadside for drugs and alcohol. All three tested positive for drugs, two for Cannabis and one for Cocaine.
A fourth motorist managed to evade the checkpoint having shunted the toll barrier aside to evade toll payment and was stopped on East Wall Road where he was arrested for dangerous driving.
All four motorists have since appeared before Dublin District Courts charged with offences under the Road Traffic Acts.
The operation is ongoing.
