Gardaí have arrested 12 people as part on an Operation Thor Day of Action in Tralee, Co Kerry.
An Operation Thor Day of Action was carried out in the Tralee District on Tuesday, 5th March 2019. Gardaí arrested 7 people in relation to a number of recent incidents of burglary, theft, possession of drugs and public order. 5 people have been charged, 2 will be summonsed to court and 1 was released pending a file to the DPP. 8 warrants were also executed on 5 people who have since been brought before the courts.
A total of 3 premises were searched under warrant which resulted in the seizure of small quantities of cannabis herb and cocaine.
A crime prevention stand was set up in Manor West Shopping Centre where Gardaí gave the relevant crime prevention advice on topics such as fraud, bogus traders, personal safety and home security. Members of the Community Policing Unit also visited 2 schools in the area where they spoke to students about road safety and how to be safe ‘online’.
As part of the day of action, eleven checkpoints were carried out by uniform and detective Gardaí which resulted in a number of road traffic offences being detected.
A ‘test purchasing’ operation was set up which resulted in 3 detections of licenced premises selling alcohol to a person under age. A file will now be prepared in relation to these detections.
Speaking at Tralee Garda Station today, Superintendent Keane said ‘The main focus for this Day of Action was to prevent crime, raise awareness and to enhance community engagement. Providing the relevant crime prevention advice to the public is vital, so that’s why we were out yesterday in our schools, shops and at checkpoints, telling people about how they can keep themselves and their homes safe from criminals. We also took the time to tell people about our ‘see something, say something campaign which allows people to inform us, by text, of anti-social behaviour that is happening in Tralee. This can be done by texting ‘TRALEE’ and the incident details to 50555 ’
