Update – Fatal Shooting Applewood Close in Swords, Dublin on the 17/1/19.

Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Zach Parker at Applewood Close, Swords on the 17/1/19 are appealing to the public for information.

At approximately 7.30pm a lone male approached and fired a number of shots at a slow moving car as it was driven from Applewood Close onto Jugback Lane. The driver of the car Zach Parker from Swords was fatally injured. His passenger, a 25-year-old man also from the Swords area, was seriously injured and taken by Ambulance to Beaumont Hospital. The gunman left the scene on foot onto Jugback Lane in the direction of Balheary Road.  

The body of the deceased has been removed to the City Morgue, Whitehall where a post-mortem examination will be conducted later today by the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margot Bolster. The passenger remains in Beaumont Hospital where his condition is understood to be stable. Members of the Garda Technical Bureau are examining a number of crime scenes linked with the investigation and an incident room has been established at Swords Garda Station.

Speaking from the crime scene this afternoon Superintendent Gerard Donnelly said: – "My appeal is for witnesses who may have been in the Applewood area between 6:30pm and 8:00pm last night, particularly those around the Gym Plus premises, Applewood Close, Jugback Lane and the Balheary Road area of Swords and to any motorists with dash-cam footage to make it available."

The Superintendent also said: - "The gunman described as tall, of athletic build and wearing a black hoodie top with a black scarf covering his face, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers with white soles. It’s understood he was carrying a grey or light coloured rucksack that may have concealed the firearm. Anyone who can assist with the investigation is asked to contact the Incident Room at Swords Garda Station on 01 6664700 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."

No arrests have been made to date and enquiries are ongoing. Further updates will follow.

Gardaí in Swords are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred at a sports centre on Applewood Close, Swords this evening, Thursday 17th January 2019 at 7.30p.m.

A number of shots were discharged and two men were injured, one man (early 20s) was fatally injured.  The second man (mid 20s) was removed to Beaumont Hospital and his condition is described as serious.

The body of the deceased remains at scene.  Investigations ongoing.
