Yesterday, Saturday 21st December 2019, a High Visibility Day of Action took place in Finglas, Dublin 11 between 3pm and 9pm. The aim of these patrols was to bring a sense of safety/security to the general public whilst out doing their Christmas shopping and to allow for a positive community engagement with their local Gardaí.
The areas identified were Finglas West, Meakstown area. All retail units in the areas were called into by Community Gardaí and advice given regarding security.
Foot & mountain bike patrols, a total of three (3) checkpoints were conducted and Community Gardaí along with probationer Gardaí (Open City), distributed flyers to motorists highlighting the dangers associated with the illegal use of scrambler motorcycles on public roads and also the danger of buying these high powered motorcycles for children at Christmas time. This proved extremely effective and the feedback from the general public was that of support and appreciation towards An Garda Siochána for their efforts.
A number of traffic and drugs offences were detected along with the seizure of four (4) vehicles for no insurance and court proceedings will follow.
This initiative was run by the Community Policing office at Finglas Garda Station with the assistance of Roads Policing Unit and the Garda Dog Unit.
