Members of the media are invited to attend the 4th year of the ‘Cops and Donuts’ charity event being run by An Garda Siochana. The aim of the ‘Cops and Donuts’ event is to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics.
When: Sunday 18th November 2018
Time: 12 noon
Where: Crescent Shopping Centre, Dooradoyle Road, Co. Limerick
Gardaí from Roxboro Road Community Policing Unit will erect a custom-made stand for the 4th year running where more than 3,000 delicious donuts will be sold to the public from 12noon until 6pm.
The donuts will be delivered fresh that morning from Kelly’s Family Bakery of Wexford Town and sold at a cost of €2 for two or €5 for a box of six. All proceeds will go to Special Olympics Munster who provide sports training and competition to 2,500 athletes across the province.
Roxboro Community Garda Paul Howard said "This is the 4th year we have been organising the Cops and Donuts event in conjunction with Special Olympics Ireland. Each year it gets better and better. Over the last few years we have raised a total of €9,800. We are raising money for a very worthwhile cause and we are hoping to surpass the amount of much needed funds we raised last year. I would like to thank Kelly’s Bakery in Wexford Town and Precision Signs and Design for supporting the event for the past few years. Their support is invaluable for the running of the event.’
Speaking at Roxboro Road Garda Station, Superintendent Eamon O Neill said ‘I am delighted to be involved in the Cops and Donuts event this year as it not only gives us the opportunity to raise money for a good cause, but allows us to get out there and engage with the people in the local community. I would encourage everyone to come and show your support on the day as we raise money for an excellent cause.
Ms. Anita Carty, Regional Funding Coordinator with Special Olympics Munster said: "The Cops & Donut Shops are a fun and tasty way to raise much-needed funds for the Special Olympics. We are extremely grateful to An Garda Síochana, whose support for Special Olympics is invaluable”
Garda Paul Howard and Ms. Anita Carty will be available for interview on the day along with some of the Special Olympics athletes.
