Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury traffic collision in Ennis, Co. Clare on the 26th October 2016.
At approximately 10pm a collision involving two cars and a pedestrian occurred on Gort Road at Sheils roundabout. A male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, was seriously injured. He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick. His injuries are understood to be life threatening.
The occupants in one of the cars, two males aged 25 & 19 years, fled the scene on foot. They were followed and apprehended by an off duty Garda before being arrested a short distance away. They were treated for minor injuries and are currently detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Ennis Garda Station, by investigating Gardaí.
The occupants of the second car, two females aged in their 60s, were also taken to University Hospital Limerick. Their injuries are no thought to be life threatening.
Garda forensic collision investigators have examined the scene and the road has since reopened to traffic.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, and are in particular appealing to anyone who was in a nearby filling station and shopping centre to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ennis Garda Station 065-6848100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
