Gardai in Loughrea are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Ballydoogan on the N65 Loughrea to Portumna Road at approximately 4.10pm this afternoon.
A male in his 80’s was fatally injured when the car he was driving and the sole occupant left the road and collided with a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe.
This stretch of road (N65 just past the junction with the Loughrea to Ballinasloe Rd – R446) is currently closed pending the completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
