Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Suttonsrath, Jenkinstown, Co Kilkenny this afternoon Thursday 5th May 2016 shortly before 4.30pm.
Two cars collided with each other on the N77 Kilkenny-Ballyragget Road at Jenkinstown. A man, 80 years, driver and sole occupant of one of the cars suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at scene. His body was taken to Saint Luke's General Hospital Kilkenny. A post mortem is to be arranged.
The driver of the second car, a man, 59 years, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Waterford University Hospital. His condition is described as stable.
No other injuries were reported to Gardaí.
The road was closed for a period of time to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.
