Gardai in Roundwood are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred near Annamoe, Co. Wicklow before 6.40am this morning.
A 13 year old male was injured when the car he was a passenger in collided with a ditch. Following the collision the driver and the 13 year old proceeded to walk on the road towards Roundwood from Annamoe before being offered a lift by a passerby. Unfortunately the injured males condition deteriorated and he died on route to Loughlinstown Hospital. A post mortem is scheduled to take place this afternoon.
The male driver of the car, in his 30’s, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and brought to Wicklow Garda Station. He is scheduled to appear before Bray District Court this afternoon at 2pm.
The road between Roundwood and Annamoe is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision investigators and local diversions are in place.
Gardai wish to appeal to anyone who travelled this road prior to 6.40am this morning in either direction and who may have seen the collision or observed or passed the two males walking the road to contact the Gardai at Wicklow on 0404 – 60140, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
