As part of a Community Policing Initiative under Operation Thor Gardaí from the Kilkenny/ Carlow division carried out an operation in Kilkenny today (Wednesday 17th February 2016).
The purpose of the operation was to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activity, apprehend criminals and to enhance Community engagement. The operation included Garda checkpoints and Community Gardaí informing members of the public to increase awareness of protection of personal property and possessions.
During the course of today’s operation 16 people were arrested for a variety of offences including theft, robbery and burglary , a number of persons have appeared before the Courts and others will appear before the Courts in the near future. A further 16 people were also arrested on warrant.
Also on today’s date An Garda Síochána together with the Department of Agriculture seized 30 horses in the Wetlands area of Kilkenny. The horses have been removed to a safe environment.
This was a multi-agency operation in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, Department of Agriculture and Revenue Customs Services.
