The media are invited to a 1916 Commemoration Event and the opening of the new interactive Garda Museum in Dublin Castle this afternoon.
The full itinerary is as follows:
• 2pm: Preview of the new Garda museum in the Treasury Building, Dublin Castle
• 5pm: Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan will officially open Garda Museum
• 6pm: 1916 Commemoration event at the Printworks, Dublin Castle Following the Museum preview, Assistant Commissioner Jack Nolan, Sergeant Martin Drew, Garda Museum, and Sergeant Paul Maher, Garda Historical Society will each be available for interview.
As part of the Commemoration Event, Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan will present 1916 Commemorative medals to a representative group of serving members and civilian staff of An Garda Síochána of all ranks and grades. It will also feature lectures on ‘Policing Dublin during Easter Week 1916’ and ‘The 1916 Courts Martial’ while music on the night will be provided by the Garda Band, the DIT Orchestra, and Garda Male and Female Choirs.

Featuring rare and special artefacts, recreations, audio-visual elements, and various model displays, it tells the story of policing in Ireland from the night watchmen of the 18th Century right up to the police service of today Please note that parking at Dublin Castle is restricted.The only media vehicles that will have access to parking at Dublin Castle today are Outside Broadcasting Units.
