Following the malware risk to the Garda ICT environment being identified by An Garda Síochána on Thursday 4th August 2016, access to certain ICT systems was temporarily removed for all users across the organisation.
Any security risks to the Garda ICT systems are treated with the highest importance and standard security protocols are implemented.
Working with security experts the threat was identified and an appropriate solution was implemented across all Garda ICT systems.
An Garda Síochána can confirm that normal service to Garda systems was restored today (Monday 8th August). As a precaution, heightened security measures have been put in place.
An Garda Síochána can re-confirm that no data was compromised, and that Pulse and the Garda website were not affected.
An Garda Síochána’s Computer Crime Unit is continuing its investigation into the incident.

On Thursday 4th of August 2016 An Garda Siochana identified a zero day (a new strain) malware threat on one of our systems.
Heightened security procedures were implemented and standard protocols were enforced across all Garda ICT environments to limit any effect on our systems. Working with security experts the threat was identified and an appropriate solution was implemented across all Garda Siochana ICT systems.
An Garda Siochana are continuing our investigation into the incident. The Computer Crime Unit at the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation are investigating the source of this malware.
